NPP presidential aspirant, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has underscored the need for education to be treated as the driving force behind Ghana’s economic transformation.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the former Education Minister warned that the economy risks stagnation if investments in education are not guided by a transformative vision.

“Education should be seen as the engine for transformation of our economy. Without it, our economy will remain stagnant. We need a growth mindset, beginning with our children. It must be built into the curriculum,” he stressed.

The Young and Safe Project introduces has introduced selected pupils of the Ho Dome Evangelical Presbyterian Basic School in the Volta Region to robotics and virtual reality technology.

Now, they have a fair idea of these technologies.

The pupils were taken through a 4-hour intensive exercise which saw them exposed to the basics of robotics and digital technology. They had theoretical training in robotics, AI, and virtual reality technology.

This expanded their horizon beyond the classroom knowledge and traditional careers, igniting their interest to take up courses in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to prepare them for careers in such fields.

The Robotics and Virtual Reality Bootcamp initiative is being implemented under the Digital Innovation Viability pillar of The Young and Safe Project, designed to transform Ho into a youth-friendly community.

It seeks to create an environment that would improve the overall well-being and participation of young people in decision-making and policy implementation towards the development of Ho.

The US tech billionaire Larry Ellison has overtaken Elon Musk as the world’s richest person after shares in Oracle, the business he co-founded, rocketed in early trading on Wednesday.

Ellison’s wealth has surged after the company, in which he owns a stake of 41%, reported better than expected financial results.

Oracle shares rose by more than 40% in early trading to $340 a share, valuing the business software company at $958bn (£707bn) and Ellison’s stake at $393bn, just ahead of Musk’s fortune of $384bn, according to Bloomberg’s billionaires index.

Current Affairs News|

A lecturer at the University of Media, Arts and Communication, Institute of Journalism (UniMAC-IJ), Madam Eva Kuupuolo, has raised concerns about the whereabouts of some students during the school vacation, stating that many are on break but only a few return home.
In a recent video posted on her TikTok page, she advised parents to check up on their children, noting that not all students go home during vacations.

She explained that although universities are currently on break, some students remain elsewhere without informing their families.
“Parents, if your child is in the university, you need to ask them if they are on vacation, how many weeks the semester is, just to be sure. Because guess what—some university students are on vacation but they are not home,” she said.
According to her, some students are cohabiting with their partners, often without their families’ knowledge.
The lecturer, who is well-known for creating educational content on social media, stressed the importance of parental involvement. She encouraged parents to ask their children questions and stay informed about their activities during school breaks.
She also cited research indicating a growing number of university students are living with their romantic partners.

News Alert|

The Chief Executive Officer of the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), Dr. Saajida Shiraz, has given firm assurance to students awaiting reimbursement under the government’s flagship “No Fees Stress” policy.

According to Dr. Shiraz, payment delays have been largely due to validation challenges affecting more than 23,000 applicants nationwide. She, however, emphasized that her outfit is actively working to resolve the issues to ensure that every eligible student receives their funds without further setbacks.

“The concerns raised by students are valid, and we want to assure them that no one will be left behind. The process is ongoing, and very soon, all pending reimbursements will be paid,” she stated.

The SLTF boss also reiterated the Fund’s commitment to supporting access to tertiary education by removing financial barriers for students.

*News Alert* |

Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu has commended the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), for creating a platform that fosters critical discussions on global economic shifts and their implications for Africa’s future.

Speaking at the 2025 UPSA Annual Leadership Lecture, the Minister described the theme of this year’s lecture — “The geopolitics and geo-economics of de-dollarisation: BRICS currency strategy, lessons for Africa’s common currency and beyond” — as both timely and relevant.

He noted that it comes at a period when Ghana and the wider continent are grappling with challenges of economic independence amid the “epileptic fall” of the dollar, which continues to drive up the cost of doing business.
