BE YOUR BROTHER'S KEEPER
-------------------------------------------

In the book of Genesis, we encounter a striking moment when God asks Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?" (Genesis 4:9). Cain's infamous response, "I don't know. Am I my brother's keeper?" (Genesis 4:9), reflects an attitude of disregard that stands in stark contrast to God's expectation for us as believers. The truth is, we are indeed called to be our brotherโs keeper.
The Bible consistently emphasizes the importance of looking out for one another. Galatians 6:2 instructs us to "carry each otherโs burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." This means being willing to extend a helping hand, lend a listening ear, and provide genuine support to those in need. Love is not merely spoken; it is demonstrated in action.
Proverbs 17:17 reminds us, "A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity." This verse underscores the importance of standing by one another, especially during life's most challenging moments. True brotherhood is revealed not in times of ease, but in seasons of hardship.
As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect His love in tangible ways. 1 John 3:16-18 declares, "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?" Genuine faith is evidenced by how we treat those around us.
So, let us ask ourselves: Am I truly being my brotherโs keeper? Am I looking out for those around me, or am I too caught up in my own world? The love of Christ compels us to rise above indifference and actively care for others.
Let us strive to be the kind of brothers and sisters who not only speak of love but live it out daily. As one wise saying goes, โThe measure of love is not in words spoken but in actions taken.โ May we be found faithful in being our brotherโs keeper.
