President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, Member of Parliament (MP) for Klottey Korle, as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, and Mahama Ayariga, MP, as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, subject to parliamentary approval.

The President has also reassigned Mr Kenneth Gilbert Adjei as Minister for Defence and Ahmed Ibrahim, MP, as Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

Two people have died and seven others sustained injuries following a road crash at Abor Junction on the Mankessim–Accra Highway in the Central Region.

The accident, involving a Toyota Voxy, occurred in the early hours of Thursday, August 6.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and the National Ambulance Service responded swiftly, rescuing the victims and transporting the injured to hospital.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The Volta North Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of a 31-year-old woman, Stella Amedzorme, for abducting an eight-month-old child at the Kpando Market in the Volta Region.

According to a police press release, the incident was reported on July 17, 2026, after the child’s mother, 21-year-old Gloria Xagbe, informed police that she had briefly left her eight-month-old son in the care of Amedzorme, a fellow market trader, while she went to buy packaging bags.

Upon her return, both the suspect and the child were nowhere to be found.

Acting on intelligence, police arrested Amedzorme on July 18, 2026, at Toviate, a suburb of Kwamekrom in the Oti Region, and successfully rescued the child unharmed.

During investigations, the convict admitted to taking the child on the instructions of her fiancé, who remains at large.

Today marks one year since the tragic Ghana Air Force helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians, including two cabinet ministers and three Ghana Air Force personnel.

The victims were on an official assignment when the helicopter crashed, a tragedy that plunged the nation into mourning.

May their souls continue to rest in perfect peace.
