Wa: PURC embarks on public sensitization drive through its Coffee table initiative
The Upper West Regional office of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission as part of sensitizing consumers of public utilities about the operations of the commission, carved out a well thought through initiative dubbed "the coffeE table initiative".
The initiative brings together consumers of Water and Electricity and officers of the PURC, where operations of the commission are explained to the consuming public while the public is equally offered an opportunity to voice out their grievances concerning the utilities services providers for further attention.
On May 5, 2025, the PURC team offered market women, traders and commercial vehicle drivers amongst others, a similar opportunity of interacting with the utilities regulators through the coffee table initiative organized at the Wa Central Market.
The citizens were also sensitized on their rights and responsibilities as consumers and as well as urged to take advantage of the commissions' Tariff Reckoner app and PECE.
The team further seized the opportunity and called on the consuming public to pay their utility bills timely to avoid disconnections and also continue to enjoy the quality services of the utilities services providers.
They assured the consuming public of their commitment towards protecting their interest while admonishing the public to eschew acts like illegal connections thus electricity and water theft that hamper the quality delivery of service by the utilities services providers.
The Commission also educated the citizenry on the need to conserve energy and prevent wastages that will lead them to paying more bills.
In furtherance, the team during the coffee table set-up a complaint desk for consumers to lodge their complaints on unresolved complaints with the utilities service providers for onward resolution.
Leaflets, posters on water and energy conversations tips were shared amongst the consumers present during the exercise.
