YAPEI UNITED FC ENGAGES GFA OVER ZONE REASSIGNMENT
The Management of Yapei United Football Club wishes to address our loyal supporters, sponsors, and the general public regarding the recent communication from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) concerning our change of zone for the upcoming 2026/27 season.
MANAGEMENT URGES CALM AMONG SUPPORTERS
We appeal to all supporters of Yapei United FC to remain calm and steadfast. Management is fully aware of the anxiety this sudden change has caused, and we ask for your patience as we navigate this matter. Your unwavering support remains our greatest strength, and we assure you that your interests are our top priority.
CLARIFICATION ON NRFA’S ROLE
Management deems it necessary to clarify that the Northern Regional Football Association (NRFA) has no hand in this rezoning. The decision regarding league zoning is the sole preserve of the Ghana Football Association. We wish to place on record that the NRFA has been, and continues to be, a supportive partner to our club, and they should not be held accountable for this GFA directive.
MANAGEMENT’S DISAPPOINTMENT AND CONCERNS
Management expresses profound disappointment regarding the sudden and unilateral decision by the GFA to move the club from Zone 1A to Zone 1B. It is important to note that the original split of Zone 1 was based primarily on security concerns for participating clubs, rather than geographical locations. Therefore, citing geographical reasons for this specific adjustment is inconsistent with the initial rationale for the zoning structure.
Furthermore, it is highly concerning that the league zoning was released by the FA a few weeks ago, only to be abruptly altered a mere day before the official release of fixtures for the season. This last-minute change displays a lack of due process and creates unnecessary instability.
This abrupt shift will not only have a significant psychological impact on our players and technical team but also poses a direct threat to the financial stability of the club. Specifically, our strategic sponsorship was secured based on our visibility within Zone 1A, which would have dire consequences on our operations.
THE WAY FORWARD
Despite this setback, Management is actively engaging the Ghana Football Association to find an amicable resolution. We are exploring all possible avenues to mitigate these negative impacts, including discussing alternative arrangements or seeking urgent interventions to preserve our sponsorship and ensure the safety and well-being of our team.
Additionally, we express our hope that the GFA will consider merging Zone 1A and Zone 1B to ensure fair and balanced competition for all clubs. We emphasise this point particularly because the majority of clubs promoted from these zones are often relegated in the very same season, which undermines the developmental goals of the league.
We will provide further updates to our supporters as soon as meaningful progress is made in our discussions with the FA.
