Title: "Unsent Messages"
Story by Hama Justice Nassam(HJTVGHANA)
Genre: Romance, Drama
Logline:
A man struggling to move on from his ex-girlfriend accidentally sends a message meant for himself—only to get a reply that forces him to finally face the truth.
SCENE: KOFI'S APARTMENT – NIGHT
Kofi sits alone in his dimly lit room. The bed is unmade, old pictures of naa still saved on his phone. His fingers hover over the screen as he types another message he never intends to send.
KOFI'S TEXT:
"I still see you everywhere. In my coffee, in old songs, in empty spaces beside me. I wish I knew how to stop loving you."
He sighs, shaking his head at himself.
KOFI (muttering to himself)
Get over it, man.
Just as he’s about to delete the message—his thumb slips. Sent.
KOFI freezes. His heart pounds.
Then—three dots appear. Typing.
Then, a message.
NAA:
"I wish I could say the same."
Kofi 's breath catches. He sits up, staring at the screen. Another message comes in.
NAA:
"Can we meet?"
SCENE: OUR NORMAL PLACE – THE NEXT DAY
Kofi sits at their old table, running his hands over the rim of his coffee cup. He glances up as Naa walks in. She’s different—her hair shorter, a quiet sadness behind her eyes. But she still smiles, that same soft, familiar smile.
She sits down. Silence lingers between them.
KOFI (softly)
Hey.
NAA (nods)
Hey.
Kofi studies her, his heart pounding with a mixture of hope and fear.
KOFI
So… when you said you wish you could say the same, what did you mean?
naa looks down at her coffee, stirring it absentmindedly. Then, she sighs.
NAA
I met someone.
The words hit Kofi like a slow, sinking weight. He swallows hard, keeping his expression neutral.
KOFI
Oh.
NAA
I didn’t want to tell you like this, but… when you texted, I realized I owed you the truth.
Kofi nods slowly, exhaling as he forces a small, tight smile.
KOFI
And I thought maybe… maybe you missed me.
Naa’s eyes glisten.
NAA
I do. Just… not in the way you want me to.
Kofi chuckles, shaking his head as he stares at the table.
KOFI
That’s the thing about love, huh? It’s never fair.
Naa reaches across the table, her fingers gently brushing his.
NAA (whispers)
You were my greatest love, Kofi. But I can’t be yours anymore.
Kofi’s breath shudders, but he nods. He clenches his jaw, blinking back tears.
KOFI
I know.
A long pause. The air is thick with everything left unsaid.
Finally, Kofi lifts his coffee.
KOFI
To us.
Naa swallows hard, mirroring his gesture.
Naa (softly, almost breaking)
To us.
Their cups clink gently, but it sounds like a goodbye.
Kofi watches her, memorizing her face one last time. Naa smiles through watery eyes, then stands up.
She hesitates as if wanting to say more, but instead, she turns and walks away.
Kofi doesn’t stop her this time. He watches until she disappears through the door.
Then, and only then, does he let the first tear fall.
