We are still investigating the matter but believe that we may have been the victim of a service denial prompted from within Gibraltar itself.

Gibsat will be undergoing a major network upgrade on Wednesday 5th of August between 03:00 to 06:00hrs (AM).

During this time Gibsat TV services will be unavailable.

The network upgrade will change the way we broadcast some channels. As a result of these changes, you will be required to re-tune your TV or TV box.

If you need advice, or experience issues after re-retuning, please visit our Gibsat shop or contact our technical support team on 22500001.

Dear Gibsat Customer

In light of recent developments to the COVID-19 situation, our shops will close as from the 24th March until further notice.

📱 Enquiries will be dealt with by telephone on the following number: +350 22500001 Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm or via email: [email protected]

💳 All payments to be made over the phone, cheques or bank transfers.

🏠 Pensioners and persons in ‘self-isolation’ will be able to call our hotline (tel 54065487) between 9am-5pm Mon-Fri, for any urgent subscription matter. Only subscription matters will be dealt with via this hotline.

SUBSCRIPTIONS & RENEWALS

Regarding renewal payments due within the next 2/3 weeks – please note we will exceptionally be honouring a grace period for pensioners, vulnerable clients and clients in self-isolation and service will be re-instated by calling our office or hotline during this difficult time.

In order to make these tough times a little less stressful Gibsat we have aready removed encryption to most channels. This will remain in force until further notice.

26/03/2019 - Update on local TV channel availability from Gibsat

Some popular TV channels, available for over 25 years in Gibraltar, will soon be disappearing from the screens of most residents in Gibraltar. Since the introduction of a "fully licenced" entertainment product early in 2018, broadcasters and content owners have been encouraged to pursue the closing down of various popular channels in Gibraltar from providers including Gibsat and U-mee.

We regret the inevitable inconvenience that this will cause our existing customers as well as the wider community - however, this is not due to any action we have taken and we very much regret the consequences.

Residents in Gibraltar have for many years enjoyed viewing a large number of TV channels at very low cost compared to other countries around the world. These channels have historically been provided by local companies and various estates. This has largely been possible, because broadcasters and content owners have taken little interest in Gibraltar due to its size. In addition, formalising agreements would, in any case, for most broadcasters not be possible. Due to the complexity of content rights, only a very limited number of channels can be made available on a licensed basis to Gibraltar.

For now Gibraltar stands to lose many of its favourite channels. Gibsat are however looking at alternative channels and will continue to improve their offering.

As a result of recent technological developments the future lies in streaming services including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV as well as other streaming - and download services, and we expect the move towards individual subscriptions for premium content to continue unabated. Such online TV streaming services hugely benefit from a high-bandwidth reliable fibre broadband service for stable viewing, especially when compared to ADSL/VDSL products.

**Important Announcement**

Press Release:

Gibsat Ltd has been asked to prevent access to users to channels which Sky says that it cannot licence for distribution in Gibraltar.

Gibsat has for many years been trying to encourage Sky to obtain the necessary rights to permit this to go on. No action has previously been taken against Gibsat and the present situation appears to have been prompted as part of the ongoing competition battle between telecoms operators in Gibraltar. In a recent court case in Gibraltar the Judge highlighted the need to encourage further competition in Gibraltar on the part of the dominant players in the market. Questions remain as to whether this issue is a reaction to the success of GibFibre in providing that competition.

Gibsat is presently negotiating so as to engage with Sky over an orderly withdrawal of Sky from this market. Advances in technology simply mean that the public may need to get this programming in different ways in the future.

Important Announcement

Some Gibsat customers will have lost their services this afternoon. At around 3:00pm, one of our main cable trunks was severed by external works carried out by building contractors. We are doing our very best to have our services up and running as soon as possible.

We hope you can understand this incident is totally beyond our control, and we guarantee we are doing our upmost to have services restored.

Apologies for the inconvenience, we are continuing to work on this issue throughout the night and will not stop until services have been restored.
