Today is for the guys up the Rock! 🐒 Did you know, despite common belief, the Barbary macaque is actually a monkey and NOT an ape?
Apes lack tails and although these primates also do not have tails, they actually evolved from a monkey that did, so they do not have the same ancestors as other apes...
In fact, if you ever see a baby macaque, you might notice a tiny vestigial tail at the bottom of its back! 🐵

You can see Barbary macaques by visiting Gibraltar Nature Reserve (.gi) or the Alameda Wildlife Conservation Park ().
Please respect their personal space and do not feed them. 🐾

Did you know glaciers are not just found at the poles? ❄️ They also result from compactions of snow on mountains all around the world. These frozen landscapes are Earth's largest freshwater reservoirs (holding about 70% of the planet's freshwater) and act as critical water sources for all species, including humans.🌄

It can be difficult to accept that such large and strong infrastructures are in fact very vulnerable. Melting glaciers and thawing permafrost increase risks of floods, landslides or enhanced erosion and sediment. Economically, sectors like agriculture, hydropower, mountain tourism and transportation feel the strain of glacier changes. For many Indigenous Peoples, glaciers are sacred, and their disappearance signifies a loss of identity and connection to nature.

OTWO are following this exciting story as the landscape becomes an important source of carbon capture and well-resourced refuge for local wildlife. 🐾

How much money do you think you spend in a day? 💸🛍 Do you think its possible to go one day without buying anything?

Buy Nothing Day is an annual challenge to refrain from spending for 24hrs to encourage reflection on personal spending habits, consumerism and environmental impacts of over-consumption. And yes, it's on Black Friday. Would you still feel you need that item if it wasn't discounted? Would you still spend that much when not under the pressure of the festive season? Or constantly faced with online ads, "limited availability" and free shipping offers?

Black Friday has a significant environmental impact due to increased greenhouse gas emissions from shipping, a surge in packaging waste and the generation of e-waste from discarded electronics and fast fashion. This mass consumption, driven by sales, contributes to landfill overflow and resource strain. ⚠️And you might find you are actually spending more money than if it was a normal day!⚠️
