More than 800 people across Gibraltar signed up for Active Travel Month, for a collective total of close to 88,000km across four weeks.

For our Active Travel Month Strava Challenge last month, we saved an impressive 140 kg of Carbon Dioxide from entering our atmosphere by swapping our daily commutes by car, for walking or cycling! How much did your team save? 🌱

A big thank you to everyone who attended our Awards Ceremony yesterday at the Mediterranean Rowing Club () for Active Travel Month 2025! 🏁🚲🚶 We had an overwhelming turnout for participation this year and we appreciate your enthusiasm and open mindedness to trying alternative methods of commute for the month of September.

Altogether, we travelled just under 88 000 Kms without a car, which is the equivalent of around the world 2.2x and 23% of the distance between The Rock and the Moon!

We would like to thank AMA Services Ltd () for their sponsorship and also Ministers John Cortes MP (.cortes.98) , Christian Santos () and Leslie Bruzon (.bruzon) for their support and attendance.

Congratulations to the winning team Gibraltar Chronicle () with an incredible average distance of 229.7 Km per employee travelled a week without a car!
We extend our congratulations to subcategory winning teams Gibraltar Health Authority () and GiBromptonians for Top Government Department and Top Community Group, respectfully.
Please note that although total distances travelled were on the screen, awards for top teams were given on averages across the highest number of members that were in their Strava Club during the event.

Francis Martinez won the Top Individual Award with an impressive total distance of 1069 Km travelled without a car over the entire month!

Our event was kindly facilitated by carbon footprint reports tailored to each team provided by Carlito Buhagiar of Asile Ltd, in collaboration with Reshift UK. We also included data analysis from the newly-formed local company, The Observatory ().

Congratulations to all who took part, and we are open to feedback for next year's event to make it even bigger and better.

Biosphere Sustainable Sustainable Travel International

Did you know up to 40% of food produced globally is wasted?🍎🍞🥩 That is around 2.5 billion tonnes of food a year...
And up to 70% of food that has successfully left the farm is then wasted in our kitchens! 🗑

So, how can we reduce this?
- Supercook.com and RecipeRadar can find or generate recipes from leftover ingredients you have in your kitchen! 📝
- Taking advantage of "ugly produce" campaigns in supermarkets e.g. buying "wonky peas" ... this is also much cheaper and of equal nutritional content! 🛒
- Meal plan so you know exactly what you need, and pick ingredients that can be preserved or used across several dishes where possible. 🧄🧅🍗
- Check your pantry first to see what you already have, to avoid buying duplicates.🧂🧂
- Buy in smaller quantities / amounts you know you will use. 🥡
- Understand date labels: Know the difference between "use by" (for safety) and "best before" (for quality), and use your senses to check food after the "best before" date. 🕓
- Compost is a really good way to recycle food responsibly, in cases where parts have to be discarded.♻️
