BREAKING NEWS- Guinea President Mamadi Doumbouya Dismisses 173 Military Personnel

Guinean President Mamadi Doumbouya has ordered the removal of 173 military personnel from the ranks of the Guinean Armed Forces.

The decision was announced on Monday, August 24, 2026, through a presidential decree read on national television. Authorities cited “desertion” as the reason for the mass dismissal. (Africa Guinee⁠)

Among those removed is Commander Michel Lamah, a former member of Guinea’s elite Special Forces Group (GFS) who became widely known during the September 5, 2021 coup that overthrew then-President Alpha Condé.

Lamah was among the soldiers whose images circulated widely during the 2021 takeover, when Doumbouya and the Special Forces seized power. (Seneweb⁠)

The move marks a major shake-up within Guinea’s military establishment, with the 173 personnel reportedly coming from different military units.
