The Gambia Press Union (GPU) in partnership with International IDEA on Wednesday, 6th and Thursday, 7th July, 2025 brought together representatives of journalists’ associations, disability groups, children and women groups for a two-day review and validation of the Cherno Jallow Charter of Ethics for Journalists.

The review and validation of the new draft Charter forms part of activities implemented by the GPU under the EU-funded Consolidation of Democratic Dispensation in The Gambia (CODE) project implemented by International IDEA.

The project aims to contribute to the consolidation of a participatory, inclusive, and human rights-based democratic transition in The Gambia.

Seven (7) passionate and dedicated individuals to express their interest to serve as Regional Coordinators/Focal Persons for GYIN Gambia Chapter.

As a Regional Coordinator/Focal Person, you will play a key role in fostering youth entrepreneurship, rural development, and leadership in your designated region.

Key Responsibilities:
- Strengthen and expand the network of young entrepreneurs within the region.
- Support the implementation of GYIN Gambia Chapter’s strategic goals.
- Facilitate capacity-building programs, training sessions, and mentorship opportunities.
- Coordinate regional activities, stakeholder engagements, and outreach initiatives.
- Ensure effective communication and collaboration between the regional members and the national chapter.

Who Should Apply?

The Gambia EU Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) – Tourism and Creative Industries is an ITC initiative that seeks to increase the competitiveness, inclusiveness and sustainability of the tourism sector in The Gambia. The objective is to create and sustain jobs, generate income and boost economic incentives for climate change adaptation and green growth. The project focuses on women and youth as the target beneficiaries.

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment (MOTIE) of the Government of the Republic of The Gambia will lead the project under the EU-Gambia Multiannual Indicative Programme (MIP 2021-2027).

The project takes a market-driven approach, and it will support the country to diversify source markets and attract more visitors all year-round, including tourists with higher purchasing power and reinforcing skills and entrepreneurship development. At the same time, it will boost The Gambia’s offering of green and inclusive tourism services and improve value chain linkages. The project is expected to contribute to long-term economic competitiveness and well-being in The Gambia.

International Trade Centre and European Union to support The Gambia’s tourism and creative industries

The five-year Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) Tourism, set to launch in January 2025, will improve the competitiveness, inclusiveness and sustainability of the tourism and creative industries to achieve inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

Funded by the European Union, the $10million project will be implemented by ITC in partnership with the Government of The Gambia and local and international business support organizations and institutions.

ITC therefore calls on all stakeholders, including businesses, the government, and partners to collaborate in supporting this project.

Rethinking SME Finance and Marketing: Made in The Gambia Shelve available at GYIN Gambia Secretariat for Entrepreneurs at no cost

In a bid to create another marketing avenue for Small and Medium Enterprise (SMEs), the Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN) Gambia Chapter has mounted a shelve at its secretariat to display Made in The Gambia Products.

The Made in The Gambia Shelve is an income generation for SMEs that are members of the network whereby their products will be displayed and have regular digital market thus boosting their market. This also serves as a long-term business growth and creating more and better sales for the SMEs.

Entrepreneurs registered with GYIN Gambia will now have their Made in The Gambia Products sold in GYIN Gambia Secretariat at no charges/cost and customers will directly pay to the business owners account using online digital payment systems.

As part of the implementation of a three (3) months maize project (September – November, 2024), GYIN Gambia Chapter today, Monday, 23rd September, 2024 has deployed its profiling team to profile 3,000 maize farmers in The Gambia.

The intervention regions are: Lower River Region (LRR), North Bank Region (NBR), Central River Region South (CRR South), Central River Region North (CRR North) and Upper River Region (URR) respectively.

GYIN Gambia is currently working with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) in Canada to support 3,000 farmers in the Maize Value Chain in The Gambia.

Exciting News!

GYIN Gambia Chapter in its new project 'Trade Facilitation West Africa (TFWA)' is looking for qualified trainers on entrepreneurship who will train 200 Small-Scale Cross Border Traders in The Gambia.

The project, which is funded by the World Bank, is coordinated and implemented by Doorways gGmbH in conjunction with GYIN Gambia Chapter.

As part of its planned activities, the project will conduct a Training of Trainers (ToT) prior to the training of beneficiaries and applications are now open!
