๐ฌ๐ฒ The Kingโs Baton Relay Officially Departs from State House! ๐๐โโ๏ธ
Yesterday, 15th October 2025, marked another historic and colorful chapter in The Gambiaโs journey with the Kingโs Baton Relay, as the symbolic Baton officially departed from the State House in Banjul.
His Excellency, the Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, Muhammed B.S. Jallow, proudly launched the dayโs activities by running from the State House to its main entrance gate, where he handed over the Baton to the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Bakary Y. Badjie.
Minister Badjie also took part in the relay by running a short distance before passing the Baton to the President of the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC), Mr. Bai Dodou Jallow, who then handed it to Ms. Amie Jabang of GNOC. The Baton continued its symbolic journey with members of the GNOC Executive Committee, representing unity and teamwork, all the way to the Arch 22nd Square.
At Arch 22, the event took on a more ceremonial tone as the Vice President, alongside several dignitaries, joined the gathering. Inspiring remarks were delivered by the GNOC President, the British High Commissioner, and the Vice President, all emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship, peace, and collaboration.
The Baton Relay later continued through Banjul, where school children proudly took part, before it was handed over to the Banjul City Council, whose members also actively participated in the relay. From there, the Baton was passed on to KMC officials at Denton Bridge, who escorted it through the municipality to the KMC Council Headquarters, with enthusiastic participation from students of various schools along the way.
The dayโs relay concluded at the British High Commissionerโs residence, where the Baton will spend the night before continuing its national journey the following day.
