Gambian Athletics Coach Musa Sanneh Travels to Nairobi for Level II Sprints and Hurdles Coaching Course

Gambian athletics coach Sgt. Musa Sanneh has traveled to Kenya to attend the Level II Coaching Course in Sprints and Hurdles, as part of his progression toward full certification under the African Athletics Development Centre training program.

The intensive course, organized by the AADC Nairobi under the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), began on June 10th, 2025, and includes both theoretical and practical components. The practical phase of the course, which Coach Sanneh is currently undertaking, focuses on advanced techniques in sprint and hurdles coaching, including biomechanics, speed development, and training periodization.

Coach Sanneh, who serves as a sergeant with the Gambia Armed Forces has been instrumental in grooming young sprinters in the country and is among the few Gambian coaches progressing toward WACAA Level II certification. His participation in this high-level program signifies Gambia’s commitment to raising the standards of coaching and athlete performance at regional and international levels.

The course was preceded by an online theoretical session earlier this year and now culminates in practical evaluations at the AADC Centre in Nairobi. Participants were selected based on strict eligibility criteria, including prior certification at Level I, active coaching engagement, and endorsement by national federations.

“This is a big step not just for me but for Gambian athletics,” said Coach Sanneh before his departure. “The knowledge and skills I will gain from this course will directly benefit our athletes and help prepare them to compete at the highest levels.”

According to the official letter issued by the AADC and signed by Director Ibrahim Hussein, the program aims to develop elite-level coaching capacity across Africa by equipping coaches with scientific and technical skills tailored to sprint and hurdle events.
