Yesterday, 15th October 2025, marked another historic and colorful chapter in The Gambiaโ€™s journey with the Kingโ€™s Baton Relay, as the symbolic Baton officially departed from the State House in Banjul.

His Excellency, the Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, Muhammed B.S. Jallow, proudly launched the dayโ€™s activities by running from the State House to its main entrance gate, where he handed over the Baton to the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Bakary Y. Badjie.

Minister Badjie also took part in the relay by running a short distance before passing the Baton to the President of the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC), Mr. Bai Dodou Jallow, who then handed it to Ms. Amie Jabang of GNOC. The Baton continued its symbolic journey with members of the GNOC Executive Committee, representing unity and teamwork, all the way to the Arch 22nd Square.

At Arch 22, the event took on a more ceremonial tone as the Vice President, alongside several dignitaries, joined the gathering. Inspiring remarks were delivered by the GNOC President, the British High Commissioner, and the Vice President, all emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship, peace, and collaboration.

The Baton Relay later continued through Banjul, where school children proudly took part, before it was handed over to the Banjul City Council, whose members also actively participated in the relay. From there, the Baton was passed on to KMC officials at Denton Bridge, who escorted it through the municipality to the KMC Council Headquarters, with enthusiastic participation from students of various schools along the way.
The dayโ€™s relay concluded at the British High Commissionerโ€™s residence, where the Baton will spend the night before continuing its national journey the following day.

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ฒ GAA President Attends Kingโ€™s Baton Relay โ€” But Presence Goes Unnoticed by Athletes ๐Ÿ‘€

Yesterday, 15th October 2025, the President of the Gambia Athletics Association (GAA) was in attendance at the ongoing Kingโ€™s Baton Relay held in Banjul.

However, his presence went completely unnoticed by the athletes who were actively participating in the event. While the relay attracted vibrant engagement from schoolchildren, dignitaries, and sports officials, the athletesโ€™ lack of awareness of the GAA Presidentโ€™s presence raised quiet questions about visibility, connection, and engagement between leadership and athletes.
