*Barrow Appeals for Patience as Government Battles Deepening Power Crisis*
President Adama Barrow has called on Gambians to remain patient amid the country's worsening electricity crisis, assuring citizens that his government is working tirelessly to restore stable power supply as widespread outages continue to affect homes, businesses, schools, and health facilities.
In his first public remarks on the issue, the President acknowledged the growing frustration among citizens and described electricity as a matter of national security, underscoring the government's commitment to resolving the crisis.
For several weeks, frequent and prolonged power cuts have disrupted daily life across the country. Small businesses have reported significant losses, students preparing for national examinations have struggled to study, and healthcare facilities have faced challenges in maintaining essential services. Many households have also been forced to endure long, uncomfortable nights without electricity.
Addressing the nation, President Barrow said the government fully understands the difficulties being experienced by the public and is treating the matter with urgency.
"We are concerned with electricity. We consider it a national security force," he said. "That is why we are doing everything possible to restore stable electricity in this country."
The President noted that The Gambia had enjoyed nearly two years of relatively reliable electricity supply before the current disruptions emerged.
"Good news is no news," he remarked, suggesting that the stability previously enjoyed had become largely unnoticed until recent technical challenges interrupted the supply.
According to President Barrow, the crisis is largely the result of technical difficulties that require time, expertise, and significant investment to address. He disclosed that the government is working closely with regional partners, including Senegal and Guinea, to stabilize the country's electricity network.
