Zelensky Rejects Trump’s Territory Swap Peace Plan

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has strongly dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal for a peace deal with Russia that could involve exchanging territories — a move that would effectively hand over some Ukrainian land to Moscow.

Speaking in a video address from Kyiv on Saturday, Zelensky said:

“Ukrainians will not give their land to the occupier. Any decisions made without Ukraine are decisions against peace — they will never work.”

Trump, who has made ending the war a key foreign policy goal, announced plans to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15 to discuss a possible agreement, saying there could be “some swapping of territories to the betterment of both.”

Zelensky stressed that Ukraine’s constitution declares its territory “indivisible and inviolable,” and insisted that any lasting peace must respect that principle.

Public opinion in Ukraine is divided — a recent poll shows 38% now support ceding some land to end the war, up from 10% two years ago, but a majority still opposes any territorial concessions.

Two Ghanaian Ministers Among 8 Killed in Helicopter Crash

A tragic helicopter crash in Ghana’s Ashanti Region on Wednesday has claimed the lives of eight people, including two government ministers. The Defense Minister, Edward Omane Boamah, and the Environment Minister, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, were among the five passengers onboard the military aircraft, along with three crew members.

According to the Ghana Armed Forces, the Z9 military helicopter lost contact while flying from Accra to the mining town of Obuasi.

In a video statement, Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff to the President, called the incident a “national tragedy” and announced that flags across the country would be flown at half-mast until further notice.

The other passengers killed were Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress; and Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate.

The helicopter crew members were identified as Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

This is a developing story and may be updated as more information becomes available.

Rwanda Agrees to Take in 250 Migrants Deported from the U.S.

Rwanda has struck a deal with the U.S. government under Donald Trump to take in up to 250 migrants who were deported from America — most of whom are not Rwandan citizens.

This makes Rwanda the third African country after South Sudan and Eswatini to agree to accept deportees originally from other nations. A U.S. official described the deportees as “barbaric” criminals, causing serious concern over how African countries are being treated in these deals.

According to Rwandan officials, each migrant must be approved before entry. Once accepted, the migrants will receive training, health care, and accommodation to help them start a new life in Rwanda, which is among Africa’s fastest-growing economies.

This is not Rwanda’s first time getting involved in such controversial migration arrangements.
Between 2019 and 2025, it hosted nearly 3,000 migrants evacuated from Libya in partnership with the UN.
In 2022, Rwanda made a deal with the UK to accept deported asylum seekers, but it collapsed after the change of leadership in Britain.

Although Rwanda received over $300 million from the UK for the UK-Rwanda deal, it later announced it would not refund the money after the plan was canceled.

Some Africans have expressed anger over these deals, saying the continent should not be a dumping ground for migrants rejected by Western powers.

Critics are also concerned about Rwanda’s human rights record and how safe the migrants will be, especially after the UN warned of the risk of refoulement — where migrants could end up in countries where their lives may be in danger.

The U.S. Supreme Court recently gave the green light for Trump’s government to deport certain migrants to countries other than their own, and Trump has ordered U.S. officials to push for more such agreements in Africa.

What’s your take on this? Should African countries like Rwanda be accepting migrants deported from the U.S. and other Western nations? Share your thoughts below 👇

Tragedy at Sea: Over 60 African Migrants Dead After Boat Capsizes Off Yemen

A devastating incident has occurred off the coast of Yemen where at least 68 African migrants, mostly Ethiopians, have lost their lives after their boat capsized in the Gulf of Aden on Sunday. According to the United Nations' migration agency (IOM), 74 others remain missing, while only 12 migrants survived the disaster.

The boat, which was carrying 154 migrants, sank near Abyan province, in southern Yemen. Rescue teams later recovered dozens of bodies along the shores of Khanfar District and Zinjibar, the provincial capital.

This heartbreaking event is part of a growing pattern of migrant shipwrecks in the region, as desperate individuals from East Africa continue to risk dangerous sea journeys in search of better opportunities in Gulf countries — despite Yemen’s ongoing civil war.

Just this year, thousands of migrants have braved the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden routes, often overcrowded and unsafe boats run by smugglers. In March, four boats also capsized, leaving two dead and 186 missing between Yemen and Djibouti.

The IOM reported that over 60,000 migrants arrived in Yemen in 2024, a decrease from 97,200 in 2023, likely due to increased maritime patrols.

Tragedy at Oasis Wembley Concert: Fan Dies After Fall

A tragic incident occurred during Oasis’ reunion concert at Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday night. A man in his 40s sadly died after falling from an upper tier of the stadium.

According to the Metropolitan Police, emergency services responded around 10:19 PM but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The band, currently on their highly anticipated Live '25 reunion tour, said they were "shocked and saddened" by the news and extended their heartfelt condolences to the man's family and friends.

Wembley Stadium confirmed that medics, police, and the London Ambulance Service were on site and did all they could to help. Authorities believe many concert-goers may have witnessed the fall or recorded it, and they are urging anyone with information or footage to contact the police via 101.

Despite the tragedy, the band’s scheduled performances will continue, including another show at Wembley on Sunday, and upcoming gigs in Edinburgh, Ireland, Canada, the U.S., and Mexico.
