The City has a diverse ethnicity and nationality from different part of West Africa. The Mandinko is the most spoken language followed by Fulas and other minorities. It has about 8 villages around its and Mansakonko the regional headquarters.

Biographical Book on Chairman Landing B. Sanneh Launched.

A new book explaining the life and development vision of the Mansakonko Area Council Chairman Landing B. Sanneh was launched at the council's conference hall.

Titled Landing B. Sanneh: Vision for Development, the biography outlines Hon. Sanneh's rise from his roots in Jattaba, Kiang West District, to his current leadership role. It traces his ancestral lineage to the pre-colonial ruler Mansa Gifoyang.

The book highlights his educational journey and professional path, which included roles at the Ministries of Lands, Foreign Affairs, and Finance. He later served extensively in youth development, rising to Senior Youth Coordinator and becoming General Manager of the National Enterprise Development Initiative (NEDI).

Since his election as Chairman, the biography notes his transformation of the council's human resources, significantly raising the qualifications of its staff.

The author of the work is Honourable Madi Ceesay, who has written several other publications this year.

New Tax Office and Staff Residence Opens in Soma

The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) inaugurated a new Tax Office and Staff Residence in Jarra Soma on November 29, 2025.

Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe stated the facility is a key step in decentralizing the GRA's operations, bringing services closer to the public and aiming to improve efficiency and revenue collection in the region. He emphasized that the staff residence is an investment in employee welfare and dignity.

The Jarra West District Football Committee hosted a dinner in honor of the league and knockout finalists of the ongoing Jarra West League and knockout competition at Domordima Restaurant, located along the Banjul Highway, today. The event was aimed at building excitement and proper buildup ahead of the highly anticipated Prof Dr Sidat Yaffa knockout final, scheduled to take place on November 22nd, 2025.

During the dinner, the committee presented both finalists of the Knockout with a cash prize of D10,000, a brand new set of jerseys, two footballs, and shocks to each of the teams. This generous gesture is a testament to the committee's commitment to promoting football development in the district.

The Network Against Gender Based Violence with partners today organized a day community and regional forum for knowledge exchange and learning on integrating the needs of persons with disabilities into risk and disaster management interventions at Mansakonko conference hall in LRR.

The forum brought together participants from all works of life including persons with disabilities under the theme “integrating the needs of persons with disabilities into risk and disaster management interventions”

Several speakers spoke during the opening session including Mr Muhammed Krubally who presented on the best practices on disability-inclusive disaster risk management.

Mr Krubally said the day marks a significant moment in the history of persons with disabilities based on the fact that the forum looks into thematic areas that affects persons with disabilities and this is why persons with disabilities that coexist in the communities and most be included in the community to have equal share of the national cake on equal basis with others.

Mr Sara Baldeh represented the LRR regional Governor and delivered a statement. Mr Baldeh reminded the gathering that disability is not inability and therefore urged all inclusion in the integration of persons with disability into risk and disaster management. Baldeh further thanked the network of gender based violence and all its partners for conveying such an important forum as integration is not just a mere gesture. He encouraged the participants to not just share the knowledge learned but put them into actions.

Mansakonko Area Council Officials Attend Specialized Seminars in China

Mansakonko, The Gambia – Two senior officials from the Mansakonko Area Council are currently in the People’s Republic of China, participating in separate high-level seminars aimed at fostering rural development.

Mr. Buwa Kinteh, the Council's Administrative Director, is attending a three-week seminar focused on strategies for reducing rural poverty. The program is designed to equip participants with modern techniques and policies that have proven effective in uplifting agricultural and remote communities.

Concurrently, Mr. Ebrima Saidyleigh, the Procurement Assistant for the Council, is in the city of Wuhan for an intensive two-week training program. His seminar concentrates on the development and management of small hydropower stations, highlighting their role in promoting sustainable energy and economic growth for rural communities.

The participation of both officials in these specialized courses is expected to bring valuable insights and technical knowledge back to the Lower River Region. The training aligns with the Council's ongoing efforts to address energy challenges, stimulate local economies, and improve the livelihoods of residents.

The most anticipated 1st Edition of the LRR Zonal championship is set to commence soon. The exciting zonal competition will comprise of all six districts in the region aimed to forster unity and nurturing young talents of the region through collaborative efforts on a strong footing of mutual trust among the six district nawettan centers.

In view of these magnificent ideas, the competition department of LRRFA today conducted club management meeting with representatives from the six nawettan centers.

The meeting was fruitful and by extension provided an opportunity for the various districts to meet face to face with the organizing committee to discuss the upcoming zonal competition matters which includes

1. Submission of registration list

2. Discussion and adoption of competition rules and regulations.

3. Balloting of district teams into two groups of three

4. Qualification of players for the competition and many more issues regarding the competition which clarification were made for members understanding.

The date for commencement of the tournament shall be known public in coming weeks.

The Gambia Police Force Announces the Sudden Passing of Commissioner Ken Mendy

BANJUL, THE GAMBIA – September 18, 2025 – The Gambia Police Force (GPF) today announced with profound sadness the sudden passing of Commissioner of Police Ken Mendy. Commissioner Mendy passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the Kanifing General Hospital.

At the time of his untimely death, Commissioner Mendy served with distinction as the Regional Police Commissioner for the Lower River Region. He was widely respected for his unwavering dedication to duty and his lifelong commitment to protecting the lives and property of citizens and upholding law and order throughout The Gambia.

The Inspector General of Police, the entire Police High Command, and the men and women of the GPF expressed their deepest sorrow and extended their heartfelt condolences to Commissioner Mendy's bereaved family, his colleagues, and all his loved ones both at home and abroad.

Funeral arrangements and details regarding the burial ceremony will be communicated to the public at a later date.

The GPF requests that the public and media respect the privacy of the family during this period of immense grief.
