Gambia has made an electrifying start at the inaugural ANOCA School Games in Algeria, with both the U18 boys’ and girls’ beach volleyball teams delivering emphatic straight-set victories in their opening pool matches.

In the girls’ category, the dynamic duo of Hoja Njie and Mariama Sambou overwhelmed Ghana with a commanding performance, taking the first set 21-7 before sealing the match in style with a 21-9 second set win. Their precision, coordination, and confidence on the sand left no room for doubt — The Gambia is here to compete at the highest level.

Meanwhile, the boys’ team, featuring Modou Kanyi and Mustapha Bah, showed equal dominance against Benin. The pair cruised to a 21-10, 21-9 victory, showcasing strong teamwork, resilience, and sharp net play.

These victories not only mark a promising start for The Gambia but also send a strong message to other contenders in the competition. Berewuleng Female Team Pays Courtesy Visit to Ministry After Historic Double Win

Banjul, 25th July 2025 – The Berewuleng Female Football Team today paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Youth and Sports following their outstanding achievement in clinching both the Gambia Football Federation Women’s First Division League and the Women’s FA Cup titles this season.

Led by club board member Sarjo Sowe and Head Coach Fakebba Saine, the victorious team was warmly received by the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports, Bakary Y. Badjie. Also in attendance were the Deputy Permanent Secretaries Mr. Mbye and Mr. Camara, Director of Youth and Sports, Mr Abass Bah and the Acting Executive Director of the National Sports Council, Mr. Mahmoud L. Jawla.

During the visit, the team made a special presentation on their championship-winning season, highlighting their journey through the league and FA Cup competitions. They also shared details of their upcoming participation in the WAFU A CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers, scheduled to take place in Senegal from 3rd to 17th August 2025.

As part of the occasion, Berewuleng presented their league and FA Cup trophies to the Ministry, symbolizing their commitment to excellence and national pride. In a symbolic gesture of appreciation, the team also presented customized club jerseys to Hon. Minister Bakary Y. Badjie and DPS Mbye.

In his remarks, Minister Badjie congratulated the team for their discipline, hard work, and consistency throughout the season. He commended the club’s leadership and coaching staff for their role in elevating women’s football in The Gambia and assured them of the Ministry’s continued support as they prepare for their international campaign in Senegal.

NSC and Ministry of Youth and Sports Express Deepest Sympathy Following Tragic Road Accident Involving Fatoto Football Delegation

Banjul, 15 July 2025 – The National Sports Council (NSC) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports extend their deepest condolences to the families, friends, and entire community of Fatoto following the devastating road accident that claimed the lives of two young men and left several others injured.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday evening between Saja K***a and Waliba K***a in the Upper River Region. A vehicle transporting football players and fans from Fatoto, returning from a Nawetan football match at the Basse Mini Stadium, lost control and overturned. The match between Fatoto and Samba Tacko had been cancelled due to heavy rains.

In a joint statement, the NSC and the Ministry expressed profound sorrow:

> “We are deeply saddened by the tragic accident involving members of the Fatoto football community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families, the injured, and the entire Upper River Region during this difficult time. Football is more than a sport in our communities — it is a source of unity, passion, and identity. To lose lives under such circumstances is a heartbreaking moment for us all.”

This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for enhanced safety protocols for sports delegations traveling across the country.
