With the studio we've been quiet for a while on the Social Media, but working hard on a number of great projects over the last months. One of which is the debut album of 'our' Yiannis Mitsios, who studied Jazz in Amsterdam and Rotterdam but hails from the town of Arta in Greece, where we live. Yiannis is known in these parts as 'that incredible shredder kid, whatever happened to him?' from before he left to study in Holland about 10 years ago, but he returns with soulful melodies, mature compositions and a musical vocabulary tapping into both his Greek roots, Jazz, Rock and Pop without ever sounding contrived. Add to that the fact that he has gathered a bunch of upcoming star players from the European Jazz scene to form a quintet, and we're set up for a real treat. It was incredible fun working with Yiannis on editing and mixing these tracks. This is the first single, 'SPIRIT OF FREEDOM', a superb modern Jazz composition in 13/8. Recording was done in Holland by Giorgos Dekos (I'm not sure which studio) and even though everything was recorded in two sessions of only a few hours, they even managed to get some footage by Richard Nacinelli and some GoPro cameras, whith which we stitched together this live video.

Well, for those of you who saw my post about DaVinci Resolve and the mystery man musician, it all came out, it was DIMITRIS KAMPOLIS who did a mighty bit of singing and lyra playing together with Ud maestro Avraam Papaioannou and Beat Master Ilias Psallidas. It was so infectious that I couldn't help but join them with a couple of bass notes on the quint bass, which made it tricky to film everything, but there you go. This is an old song from 1936, from the port of Athens, where various styles mixed to form the much beloved style of Rempetiko.

And now, for something completely different, a lovely bit of singing was heard last week at our studio. Music and words by Loukas Metaxas (who can be seen waving his hands in order to keep the gang together).
