On March 13th, 1943, Henning von Tresckow handed a package to a senior officer on Hi**er's staff.

A gift, he said — two bottles of Cointreau for a friend in Berlin. Could he take it on the plane?
The officer agreed. The package was loaded. The timer started.

At altitude, the mechanism froze. Below-zero temperatures in the cargo hold stopped a working bomb with a functioning timer.

Hi**er landed safely. No one suspected a thing.

The next morning, Fabian von Schlabrendorff flew to Hi**er's headquarters, walked in, greeted the staff, and quietly retrieved the package. He then carried an unexploded bomb through Hi**er's compound, boarded a train to Berlin, and disarmed it alone in his compartment.
