Meet Our Speaker for Cybertech Caribbean 2024.
Mrs. Feyona Austin Paul

Mrs Feyona Austin Paul is a policy developer at the University of Guyana, specialising in IT governance with cybersecurity as a key area of focus. She is responsible for developing policies that fortify the institution’s digital infrastructure. Her expertise extends to shaping cybersecurity policies and fostering an environment of cyber resilience at the University of Guyana. Having also served at the Competition and Consumer Affairs Commission in Guyana as an economist, head of consumer affairs and director, Feyona has over 15 years of experience in policy management, regulatory oversight, competition and consumer protection.

Feyona holds a diploma in communication, a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Guyana, and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Studies from the University of South Wales. Currently, she is completing her LLM at the University of East London, focusing on the intersection of law and technology.
As a panelist at the CyberTech Caribbean Conference, Feyona brings a wealth of knowledge at the convergence of economics, policy, and cybersecurity, and is dedicated to advancing legal and regulatory frameworks that protect digital assets and ensure secure online environments.

Ms. Jennifer Cook.

Ms. Jennifer Cook is the Senior Director of Marketing at the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA).
Jennifer leads the development and coordination of NCA’s growing suite of campaigns and programs, including Cybersecurity Awareness Month and Data Privacy Week. She joined the National Cyber Security Alliance in 2017 and holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Drexel University.

Meet Our Speaker for Cybertech Caribbean 2024.
H.E. Mr René VAN NES

René van Nes is a European Union career diplomat with over 20 years’ experience in European Union institutions. He was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

René started his international career in 1991 in Suriname, where he contributed to the country’s first Structural Adjustment Programme. He is delighted to be back in the region as Ambassador and Head of the European Union Delegation to Guyana and Suriname, also with responsibility for Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Saint-Barthélemy, St Eustatius and St Maarten.

Before coming to Guyana, he worked on conflict prevention and peace mediation in the EU’s External Action Service. His passion for dialogue and finding peaceful solutions was, among others, created during the years he was coordinator of the EU’s Libya team.
As Dutch Special Envoy, he represented the Dutch government during the Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul (2016).

René holds a master’s degree in macroeconomics from the Free University of Amsterdam with a specialisation in public finance and in development economics. He served as head of the economic sections in EU Delegations in Ethiopia and Tanzania. Before his career with the European Union, he worked in the private sector as a partner and consultant in a research-based consultancy firm. He started his career in the Dutch Ministry of Finance in 1988.

René is married to Jeannette van Bodegraven, who joined him in Guyana. They have two sons who both study in the Netherlands. René is passionate about politics and hiking.
