The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce is proud to announce that from January to July 2025, Guyana recorded a total of 242,655 visitor arrivals, representing an 18% increase over the 205,646 arrivals during the same period in 2024. This marks a record-breaking performance across all seven months of the year.
Arrivals through the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) accounted for 168,582 visitors, while Lethem recorded 4,483 arrivals and Moleson Creek 6,340. The Eugene F. Correia International Airport (EFCIA) welcomed 63,250 visitors. More specifically, the United States remained Guyanaโs largest source market, contributing 100,331 (41%) visitors for the period. Canada accounted for 17,783 (7%) arrivals, while 14,079 (6%) visitors came from Europe. The Caribbean contributed 76,247 (31%) visitors, and arrivals from Latin America totalled 17,263 (7%).
The growth reflects a combination of enhanced air connectivity, intensified marketing in key source markets, and a strong resurgence of diaspora travel in the post-pandemic period. Leisure and business travel also accounted for a significant share of arrivals during this time. The hosting of significant cultural and sporting events, alongside the introduction of new and diversified tourism products, further broadened the countryโs appeal to both international and regional visitors.
Monthly comparisons with 2024 show strong increases across the board, with January up by 22.8%, April showing the highest growth at 28.6%, and consistent double-digit increases in May (17.6%), June (15.2%), and July (16.7%).
These visitor arrival figures form part of the broader passenger arrival statistics. Between January and June 2025, more than one million passengers transited the Cheddi Jagan International Airport alone, matching the total recorded across all ports of entry for all of last year.
Hon. Oneidge Walrond, Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, welcomed the latest figures, stating that they align perfectly with the governmentโs vision for a robust tourism sector.
โThese figures are the result of strategic effortsโnot only in promoting Destination Guyana and expanding travel routes, but also in creating a more diversified tourism offering. They confirm the growing international interest in Guyana as a tourism destination and demonstrate that our tourism sector is well-positioned to stand as a major contributor to our GDP,โ Minister Walrond stated.
The Government of Guyana remains committed to supporting this positive trend by working closely with stakeholders to promote certified tourism businesses, strengthen partnerships, and deliver sustainable tourism development.
