Earlier today, Hon. Bishop Juan A. Edghill, Minister of Public Works, participated in the International Business Conference (IBC) Guyana 2025, currently being held at the Guyana Marriott Hotel.
Minister Edghill delivered a comprehensive presentation on Guyana’s Infrastructure Development Agenda — “Building a Connected, Resilient and Sustainable Nation”, outlining the government’s vision, achievements, and plans to further transform the country’s landscape through modern infrastructure.
Reflecting on the period 2020–2025, Minister Edghill highlighted that every major promise made in the 2020 Manifesto has been delivered, with national budgets exceeding $824.6 billion GYD (US$3.9 billion) directed toward infrastructure and development.
He detailed several transformational projects already completed or underway — including the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge, major highway expansions, and community road upgrades — all aimed at boosting connectivity, enhancing trade, and improving citizens’ quality of life.
Looking ahead to 2025–2030, the Minister outlined the PPP/C Government’s continued commitment to:
✅ Completing the Linden–Lethem Highway and constructing bridges at Kurupukari and Puruni
✅ Advancing the Corentyne River Bridge in collaboration with Suriname
✅ Expanding four-lane highways across Regions 2, 4, and 6
✅ Developing deep-water ports, modern ferry terminals, and municipal airports at Lethem and Rose Hall/Canje
✅ Introducing mass transit systems such as light rail and water taxis to ease congestion
✅ Strengthening climate resilience, sea defences, and drainage infrastructure
✅ Integrating green technologies guided by Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) 2030
Minister Edghill emphasized that infrastructure is not just about concrete and steel — it is about creating opportunities, empowering people, and building a sustainable future for generations to come.
IBC Guyana 2025, now in its third edition, stands as the region’s premier platform for investment, innovation, and international partnership, uniting business leaders, policymakers, and investors under the theme “Bridging Businesses for Regional Prosperity.” The conference serves as a key avenue for showcasing Guyana’s growth story and strengthening regional cooperation in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, ICT, logistics, and finance.
The conference brought together local and international investors, business leaders, and policymakers — reaffirming Guyana’s readiness for global partnerships and its steady march toward becoming a modern, connected, and resilient nation.
