Because of Krillin’s lack of a nose–something that has been met with abundant criticism and confusion among the fandom–he is actually a superior fighter to Goku in this specific circumstance. While Krillin is able to endure Bacterian’s stench because he is simply unaffected by it, Goku would lose to Bacterian in a second because he not only has a nose, but his sense of smell is heightened. Goku describes his heightened sense as being as sensitive as a dog’s nose, so even being on the outskirts of the arena during Krillin and Bacterian’s fight was almost too much for Goku to take whereas Krillin wasn’t even phased.

During the Universal Survival Saga, Dragon Ball Super gave Universe 6 its own Legendary Super Saiyan in the form of Kale, but how does this character compare to Broly? Broly, one of the most iconic Dragon Ball villains of all-time, has always been recognized for his one-of-a-kind Super Saiyan transformation, the Legendary Super Saiyan form, but Dragon Ball Super creates a second character who can achieve this transformation

Future Trunks arrives in the episode "Another Super Saiyan?" He stands before Mecha Frieza and King Cold, the anime's apparent antagonists going forward. However, the young man deals with them quickly, and, with a swift movement, he slices Mecha Frieza with his sword.

The moment was both shocking and unspeakably cool, ranking as one of the anime's highlights. Future Trunks has arguably the best introduction in all of Dragon Ball, and it's because of moments like this. The sight of him slicing Frieza in half ranks as one of the most iconic images in the franchise.

Bulma is another mainstay of the Dragon Ball series, but one has to admit that her role wasn't really all that pronounced in Dragon Ball Z. This may probably be due to the fact that most of her character was already established and developed in the prequel, and her irrelevance in a combat scenario made her take the backseat to battles more often than not.

That being said, there's no denying the fact that Bulma still develops a ton throughout the series, with her marriage to Vegeta being one of the focal points of the show that serves as quite an interesting surprise indeed.

Throughout the show, no character goes through more of a 180 than Vegeta. The prideful warrior goes from outright antagonist to anti-hero, to reluctant ally, and then to full-time hero. Vegeta has Dragon Ball's best redemption arc, by far, and nowhere is his change of heart more blatant than when he sacrifices to kill Majin Buu.

After succumbing to Babidi's manipulations and finally besting Goku in battle, Vegeta decides to take down Majin Buu, even if that means going down with him. He shares a heartfelt goodbye with Trunks and then uses all his energy to cause an explosion means to disintegrate Buu. His plan doesn't work, but it's the intention that counts. It's a glorious act of selflessness, and it's the moment that cemented Vegeta's place as the ultimate fan favorite.

At no time is Gohan's immense power more apparent than during his fight with Cell. The battle is full of impressive moments, including Gohan going Super Saiyan 2. However, what fans always remember is the father-son Kamehameha that ultimately destroys Perfect Cell.

Everything about the scene is chill-inducing, from the voice acting to the pitch-perfect score. It's Gohan's crowning achievement in the saga, the moment he proves himself to fans everywhere. Fans celebrated along with the young boy, and they keep doing so every time they rewatch the spectacular scene.

Goku is the heart of the Dragon Ball franchise. Childish, a tad clumsy, kind-hearted, and free-spirited, Goku is one of anime's most beloved heroes. He hardly ever lets anything get him down and goes through life with an enviable carefree attitude.

Goku's purity makes him unique. He possesses no negative feelings or thoughts, is highly loyal to his loved ones, and is willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good. His naivete, while endearing most of the time, can also be quite annoying.

While Dragon Ball Evolution is largely regarded as the worst Dragon Ball project in general, when it comes to the animated movies, the worst movie is usually agreed to be Dragon Ball Z: Bio-Broly, and it’s hard to argue against that. The story revolves around an old nemesis of Mr. Satan wanting to expose him as a fraud, and to get Mr. Satan where he needs to be, he blackmails him by threatening to reveal that Dragon Ball Z's Mr. Satan wet the bed once when they were kids. That alone makes it clear that the movie didn’t even try to have a serious tone, and with Goten and Kid Trunks being the leads, what follows is 50 minutes of toilet humor and other immature writing that greatly clashes with Dragon Ball Z’s tone.

Krillin is a consistent member of the Z Warriors and one of the strongest humans on Earth. He can hold his own in battle and can easily defeat most human opponents. His strength pales in comparison to that of the Saiyans, though, and he knows it.

Krillin participates in most fights and gives it his all. Still, he never tries to fight outside his league. He understands the dangers he and the other Z Warriors face and knows that his help is valuable but limited.

Dragon Ball: Mystical Adventure was the last of the Dragon Ball-era movies, and it’s the one that plays with the alternate continuity aspect the most. The Crane School, rivals to Dragon Ball's Master Roshi’s Turtle School, are reworked into a massive empire with Chiaotzu as their emperor. When Emperor Chiaotzu’s wife goes missing, Master Shen is put in charge of finding the Dragon Balls to wish for her return, but he’s secretly planning to use them to overthrow Chiaotzu and take over the world, a plan that naturally puts him in conflict with Goku and his friends.

Super begins with a recap of the Buu arc of Dragon Ball Z before jumping into a few slice of life episodes. The first major arc adapts the Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods movie but has a slower build-up, allowing for more of an introduction to Beerus and Whis.

The first 10 episodes include Goku’s first fight with Beerus, as well the Z fighter’s interactions and attempts to subdue him ultimately leading to the Super Saiyan God Goku and Beerus battle. The fight rages on for a few episodes, coming to an end at episode 14. Differences between the movie and the anime version include Bulma’s birthday taking place on a cruise ship and Tarble isn’t mentioned as a candidate to assist with the Saiyan God ritual. There’s also no bingo game shenanigans and the battle between Goku and Beerus involves shockwaves that almost destroy the galaxy.

When remnants of the Frieza force revive their former leader, he leads an assault on Earth with his sights set on revenge against Goku. There are a few differences in how the Golden Freiza saga plays out compared to Resurrection ‘F.’ In Super, when Frieza is first revived, he does not kill Tagoma but instead makes him his training partner. This leads to the character having extended screen time and character development, joining the Freiza forces assault on Earth.

After Trunks and Goten sneak onto Monaka’s delivery truck, the trio ends up on the planet Potaufeu. They encounter a group of space mercenaries that have been duplicated by the superhuman water. Vegeta and Jaco arrive to rescue the boys and Vegeta ends up being duplicated.

Vegeta grows weaker as the duplicate increases in strength, which leaves Gotenks attempting to defeat the fake Vegeta. Goku senses the battle and arrives on the scene and after a brief moment of confusion, battles the duplicate Vegeta. In the English dub, the Vegeta duplicate is voiced by Brian Drummond who originally voiced Vegeta in the Ocean Studios dub before FUNimation used its in-house team.

Gohan's character journey remains controversial to this day. Once poised to become the franchise's protagonist, he became a supporting character in the divisive Dragon Ball GT. He traded punches for books and became a scholar like his mother Chi-Chi always wanted.
Popularity of the story aside, Gohan's arc proves that he always was the most versatile character in the series. While it's nearly impossible to imagine Goku or Vegeta abandoning the Saiyan lifestyle in favor of a "normal" life, Gohan did it with ease. He had no qualms with leaving the heroics behind, showing a type of courage that not even his father possesses.

Piccolo is one of the most complex characters in the franchise. He goes through a considerable evolution during his time with the Z Warriors, eventually growing to care dearly for them. His relationship with Gohan is particularly close, and the anime strongly hints that Gohan sees him as a father figure.

As children, both Goten and Trunks are very pampered. Growing up with loving and doting mothers, they are two fun-loving and adventurous younglings with a fondness for mischief. Trunks is more reckless and spoiled, but Goten has no problem going along with any of his purple-haired friend's crazy plans.

Despite their lack of concern for rules or consequences, Trunks and Goten are courageous and honorable. Unlike Goku and Vegeta's adversarial relationship, Trunks and Goten are best friends and do everything together.

Chi-Chi might not have any superpower, but she can be as fearsome as any Saiyan. Goku's wife is intense, controlling, and perhaps overbearing. However, she's also passionate, committed, and well-meaning. In the end, her fiery personality is just a sign of how much he cares.

She loves her family more than anything and tries her best to steer them on the right path. Granted, it's the path that she deems best, but her heart is always in the right place.

Imagine growing up, only hearing stories about your father. That he was the best fighter to ever have lived, and that he died for the planet he loved. But your best friend also has a father. A father who’s still alive, and takes every opportunity to claim that he, in fact, is the greatest warrior in all the universe.

A six-year-old Goten, facing issues no child should have to, doesn’t know who or what to believe. But when he gets a chance to meet his older doppelganger, it doesn’t matter how strong he is, or how many bad guys he beat up – all that matters is that he has a father.

When she first debuts in the Cell saga, no one could imagine Android 18 would become such a vital part of the Z Warrior family. 18 also has a biting and sarcastic sense of humor, expressed only through the use of a few well-chosen words.

Through her marriage with Krillin, 18 learns to care more deeply for those around her, even if she tries her best never to show it. Android 18 likes to act in a confident and aloof manner, but she shows her love for her husband and daughter many times during the Majin Buu saga.

“It’s over 9000!” is many people’s introduction to Dragon Ball Z, and in some cases, the only thing they know about the series. It actually turns out that Vegeta’s most famous line was completely mistranslated by the Ocean dub, but it had already caught on so quickly that Funimation were happy to run with the mistake, and as a result, the Prince of all Saiyans has become a staple of internet culture

GT remains problematic to this day. Many in the fandom outright refuse to acknowledge its existence, and debate of its legitimacy is still going. Indeed, it lacks Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z's essence, and it ultimately felt like an unnecessary sequel. Still, it gave Goku a send-off worthy of a character of his stature.

Dragon Ball GT's final episode ranks as one of the best, jumping 100 years into the future for a new edition of the World Martial Arts Tournament. An elderly Pan notices Goku and tries to catch up with him, but he disappears. A montage of the anime's best moments then plays, going back to Goku as a child in the original series. Goku appears one last time before jumping to the sky, followed by his Flying Nimbus.

Tenshinhan is known these days for his rather stoic demeanor (and noticeable lack of presence,) but he entered the story a bit of a massive jerk. A student of the Crane School, Tenshinhan aspired to be a great assassin like Tao Pai Pai at the start of the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai. He even goes at Goku with the intent to kill when he finds out Goku is responsible for Tao Pai Pai's death.

That said, Tenshinhan's fight with Jackie Chun ends up changing his life. Roshi forces Tenshinhan to question why he follows the Crane School, and to examine his relationship with martial arts. Tenshinhan finds himself not only struggling to come up with an answer, but enjoying the thrill of the fight more & more. Through his battle with Goku, Tenshinhan's third eye is opened and sees the artistry of martial arts– leaving his old master behind.

Between General Blue, Tao Pai Pai, and very briefly Tenshinhan, Goku faces some very dangerous opponents after the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai. Even when he loses, though, Goku finds some way to come out on top, or at the very least safe. That changes when Demon King Piccolo enters the picture. Not only does he beat Goku into submission & nearly kill him, Piccolo actually succeeds in his initial goals.

Muten Roshi's Mafuba fails, ending his life on the spot; Chaozu is killed before he can make his wish, keeping Shenlong active; and Piccolo kills Shenlong after having his wish granted, ensuring the Dragon Balls can't be used anymore. It's a conclusive victory on every front, and it takes a literal miracle for Goku to turn the tide in his favor.

It's easy to misremember the Demon King Piccolo arc ending with its eponymous villain's death, but the saga actually carries on a bit longer– both in the manga and anime. With the Demon King defeated, Karin instructs Goku to use his Nyoibo to ascend into the Heavens. There, Goku will meet and be trained by none other than God.

Unfortunately, the encounter ends up triggering a rather extreme fight or flight instinct in Goku. Recognizing Kami as Piccolo, Goku rushes in to attack only to be effortlessly deflected. God explains that he and Piccolo were once one & the same, while informing Goku that his archenemy is far from gone.

The King Piccolo saga is the best in the original Dragon Ball, no doubt. At the time, King Piccolo posed the greatest danger to the Earth that Goku, still a child, had ever faced. Their battle may not be the franchise's most impressive or longest one, but it certainly is one of the most brutal.

The conflict is even worse because Goku is still a child, and there's something grueling about seeing him in pain. However, even then, Goku emerges victorious after he literally goes through the demon, piercing his stomach and killing him. Goku's cries of victory after the battle are unforgettable, making this the most memorable scene in the original anime.

When Dragon Ball began, it wasn't long before Goku found himself in fights against animals, Oolong, Yamcha, and other villains, although an important Dragon Ball staple was missing: energy attacks! When Master Roshi debuted the Kamehameha to put out the fire that raged on Fire Mountain, fans everywhere were blown away with the knowledge that a fighter's energy could be converted into an attack.

After that point on, energy attacks became more and more common to the point where a character who can't utilize energy attacks pretty much has no chance of winning a fight, and every warrior worth fearing is expected to have a signature one under their belt.

Given his reputation and the fact that dying characters is something of a joke in the Dragon Ball universe, it sure comes as a surprise that Goku has actually only died twice. When compared to the number of times that Yamcha and Krillin have been killed off, it looks like Goku has a pretty solid track record.

Who is the most powerful character in the series?
This is easier to answer in the manga version of the show, as it lacks all the movies/filler/GT series/etc.

In the original manga version of the series, the most powerful character is Super Saiyan Vegito.

In the anime, the answer is most likely Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta from GT.

The fight scene in question is both hilarious and terrifying, as characters we've come to know as powerhouses were taken down by Beerus with a pair of chopsticks. Watching Piccolo get hit in all his pressure points by cutlery is the kind of entertainment only "Dragon Ball" can provide. More than that, though, the sequence is a testament that this particular "Dragon Ball" film has an essential understanding of its roots.

Sony/Crunchyroll’s “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero” has topped the box office charts on this mid-August weekend with a $20.1 million opening from 3,900 theaters, the widest ever opening for an anime film.

By comparison, “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” opened to $9.8 million from 1,238 theaters back in 2018. With business slowing down significantly during this end-of-summer period and Sony showing a strong track record of specialty success with its anime offerings, Crunchyroll has used one of the most famous anime series ever to expand its theatrical footprint. In addition, the film earned $3.4 million from Imax and other premium formats.

Goku sacrificed his life during the Cell Games, but not before he and Chichi could conceive another child. Although Goku would be dead for seven years, he’d leave behind a new son– Son Goten. Son Goten was raised without a father for most of his life, leaving Chichi and Gohan to take care of.

Goten is an interesting mix of Goku & Gohan as a child. While he looks like Goku, he has Gohan’s more passive tendencies. At the same time, he’s nowhere near as passive as Gohan was, full of agency and even a bit of a troublemaker courtesy of his friendship with Trunks.

Anger is a key aspect of Gohan’s character, influencing his actions in every single arc he appears in during the original series. The Cell arc curiously pushes Gohan to the sidelines for the first half, only giving him time to shine when he begins training with Goku inside of the Room of Spirit and Time.

Considering Gohan’s relationship with anger, turning into a Super Saiyan should be easy. Gohan doesn’t have the same combat experience as his father, though, and he hasn’t seen enough tragedy. Gohan watched Piccolo and Krillin die in front of him, but he’s still a boy who doesn’t fully understand life & death. Goku has to push Gohan to his emotional depths, tapping into artificial rage, just for the boy to become a Super Saiyan.

Dragon Ball Super was never quite the same between the anime and manga adaptations, but things really started to diverge with the Goku Black arc. Future Trunks’ role is fundamentally different between both mediums. Where he’s more or less the lead in the anime, he’s in the supporting cast for the manga.

It’s debatable which adaptation is ultimately better, but the anime ends Trunks’ arc on an emotional high. Carrying the hope of everyone in his future on his shoulders, Trunks somehow manages to blend Super Saiyan with God Ki, creating a divine hybrid form. Super Saiyan Rage doesn’t allow Trunks to compete on the same level as Goku or Vegeta, but it does lead to some of Trunks’ best moments in DBS.

The Dragon Ball Super anime was getting into the habit of introducing brand new forms independent of the manga before the series abruptly ended with the conclusion of the Tournament of Power. Just like how Trunks got the anime exclusive Super Saiyan Rage, Vegeta got the anime exclusive Super Saiyan Blue Evolution.

Vegeta taps into the form for the first time while fighting Jiren. Unable to do any significant damage to his foe, Vegeta thinks back to the now erased Cabba. Resolved to win & revive Universe 6, Vegeta taps into a new tier of Super Saiyan Blue.

This is the newest and most powerful form a Saiyan has ever been shown to achieve and is a fitting way to close out the Dragon Ball Super series. In this form, Goku's hair and eyes are completely grey. His power is level gains a huge boost, though it is extremely damaging to his body. Whis has said that if he maintains the form for too long, his body could literally explode.

The Autonomous Ultra Instinct possesses a power level even higher than the Gods of Destruction. Whis and his sister are able to reach this form, as is Jiren, though Beerus is still working towards it. Despite his immense strength increase, this form still doesn't put Goku's power level above Jiren's.

The Namek arc dedicates so much time to detailing the Legend of the Super Saiyan, how it negatively motivates Frieza, and the relationship Goku, Vegeta, & Gohan all have with the legend in relation to their heritage. It makes Goku becoming the legendary Super Saiyan at the end of the arc all the more cathartic. But it comes at a price.

Goku only transforms after being pushed to his absolute emotional limits. After seemingly defeating Frieza, the tyrant reappears and places Goku in a hopeless position. Piccolo is pierced through the chest, Gohan’s life is threatened, and Goku is forced to watch as his best friend dies before his eyes. Tapping into a level of anger he’d never felt, Dragon Ball welcomes its first Super Saiyan.

The Tournament of Power was the perfect way to revitalize the franchise and kick it into the next gear. It was also the ideal excuse to bring back some of the best characters from previous arcs, including Frieza and the once-underrated Android 17.
The Tournament, which gave fans a glimpse of what it would be like to see the Z-Fighters competing in the Hunger Games, came to a thrilling close with the quadruple fight between Goku, Frieza, and Android 17 against Jiren. There are no words to describe this epic clash. It was chill-inducing, heart-stopping, and the best proof that Dragon Ball still has worthy stories to tell.
