1964年の東京オリンピックを目前にした1963年に建築基準法で規制されていた特定街区が改正され、続く1970年の法改正により、それまで31メートルに規制されていた高さの制限が解除された。これにより、日本では1970年代よりタワーマンションの先駆けといわれる高層マンションが建てられはじめる。日本初のタワーマンションとされているのは、住友不動産が1976年に建設した、高さ66メートル、22階建ての「与野ハウス」（埼玉県与野市）出典　https://www.athome.co.jp/mansion/shinchiku/tag/tower/column/column42/
