The Hospital Authority’s Kowloon East Cluster announced on 3 September that an arrangement had been made for a terminal female cancer patient, Yuen-fong, to witness the wedding of her beloved daughter, Cathy, in her hospital ward. Cathy stated that, in view of her mother’s limited mobility, the family decided to hold the ceremony at the hospital to fulfil her mother’s wish.
Video footage showed Cathy and her fiancé, Curtis, exchanging vows and rings in the presence of attending healthcare staff, during which Cathy fought back tears. Cathy explained that the wedding had originally been scheduled for late August. However, due to concerns over her mother’s physical condition and restricted mobility, they decided to move the ceremony to the ward.
Holding her son-in-law’s hand, Yuen-fong urged him to take good care of her daughter, saying: “Please treat her well; she is the apple of my eye.” Moved to tears upon seeing her daughter married, she expressed that she now had no regrets. Accepting a traditional cup of tea presented by the newlyweds, she remarked with a smile: “This cup of tea tastes especially sweet.”
The touching gesture resonated widely across social media, with netizens commenting: “Brought tears to my eyes,” “Commendable compassionate arrangements by the hospital,” and “Deeply moving; wishing this family all the best.”
