Another sad occasion. One of the best drummers the world has ever seen has left us. RIP Jack Dejohnette. Here he is with one of his most celebrated groups - the Keith Jarrett Standards trio. Though his output is vast and varied, and well worth exploring from every angle.
He does a nicely-controlled drum solo at around 56 minutes - Jarrett is smiling, transfixed, by Dejohnette's playing. I can't help wonder how much more he gets out of the solo than I (or most listeners) can. It's a delight - even people who don't care for drum solos will enjoy it. And the rest of the concert is a gem too.
Jack Dejohnette's departure from the jazz scene leaves a void that no one else can fill. We were lucky to have him.
