Travelling around the Amalfi Coast that no one ever talks about:
The supposedly nightmare about parking…
-Most blogs I’ve read say parking is very difficult and expensive, but there are actually many parking lots and street parking in Positano (we used Mandara and Russo) and Amalfi (pier).
-If you want to actually get around the Almafi coast in the Summer, an air conditioned car is much more comfortable and worth every penny! We saw many people bright red and sunburnt waiting for buses. The roads are actually no different to driving in many countries with cliffs (like Hong Kong).
-The drive along the Almafi Coast is SUPER scenic, often we stopped and got out to enjoy the views/take photos.
- During July - September, supposedly entry into Positano is based on your car-plate, (odd car plate for odd days of the week, and even car plates for even days) but we saw no one else abide to this rule this year it seems.
Ferry and Boats…
-The ferries that run from Positano, Amalfi and Sorrento to Capri is jam packed like SARDINES IN A CAN. If you want some personal space, take the earliest ferries!
-Private water taxi typically costs 120 Euros and more, one way. Price is based on distance and no of passengers, and time of year, however you can negotiate and haggle on the price!
- If you are looking for supermarkets, there are no decent ones in Positano and Amalfi (imo), so if you don’t rent a car, bring EVERYTHING. If you have a car, big towns such as Sorrento have pretty good supermarkets.
(If you are looking for clothes, shoes and bags, they have plenty of those everywhere)
