HK Development Bureau promises to 'expedite' its plan to build dozens of new tourist attractions on South Lantau. It says it wants to turn Lantau Island into 'Tourism Island' in order to bring millions of additional visitors a year.

Its draft plan for an 'eco-recreation corridor', issued in May, was criticised by local groups for not consulting or collaborating with the existing Lantau tourism industry and for focusing solely on recreation with zero measures to protect local ecology.
