Goals of Hong Kong Bilingual News
Our vision is to be an international Chinese-English media. Our goals are to familiarize the West with Hong Kong politics (esp. human rights situation in relation to China), Hong Kong religious freedom, e.g., pro-CCP religious leaders, Hong Kong language (HK Cantonese) and culture (pop songs, movies, TV drama, paintings, architecture, handicraft, etc.); and to help Hongkongers know their place in the international arena.
Dr. Chapman Chen, CEO of Hong Kong Bilingual News, is also the founder of Local Press (since 2014). He founded HKBNews in April, 2019. He is not only a journalist, but also a linguist, a translator with 30 years’ experience, and a green activist. He speaks English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Finnish. He was the principal investigator of a translation research program at the University of Eastern Finland (2008-2013). He taught translation and simultaneous interpreting in various universities in HK (e.g. HK Polytechnic University) and Taiwan between 1996 and 2016. He worked as a full time court interpreter in the Hong Kong Judiciary from 1988 through 1996.
