While the song really belongs to Blossom Dearie (and was first sung very well by Anita O'Day), Diana Krall does a superb job setting the mood here.

I don't know how Brazil keeps coming up with great guitarists - something in the drinking water? And my favorite type of duo is the guitar-woodwind combination. Here is Irio de Paula with the amazing Phil Woods on clarinet. What a treasure music like this is.

For all his identification with the fusion movement of the 1970s, Earl Klugh should be better known for his sublime solo guitar playing. I suspect that the nylon string classical guitar is is first love - he certainly plays it with devotion and brilliance.

One of my saddest duties on 3 O'Clock Jump was announcing when one of the great jazz musicians had quit us for good. Few departures could be as sad or notable as that of Quincy Jones. A man of vast talent and creativity, he worked in many areas of music, from Motown to Miles to film soundtracks to his own stellar big band work (seen and heard bellow). Farewell Q. And thanks for all the music.

A new discovery for me: Vanessa Moreno. Her work is mostly electronic, but I'm partial to a good Brazilian acoustic accompaniment. Look her up if you don't know her: she's quite something.
