Everything is ready for this year’s IFAJ World Congress in Croatia! The deadline is approaching on July 31st, so do not wait to register.

We have developed a concept of a 5-day main congress in the town of Osijek, located in the Slavonia & Baranja region — the breadbasket of Croatia.

On top of that, we have organized a pre-tour in Varaždin County, a region with extensive vegetable production and smaller family farms, plus two post-tours along the coastline in Istria and the Zadar region to experience Mediterranean agriculture and a concept of rural tourism.

The plan is to visit 60+ farms across 6 counties, covering everything from arable farming to meat and milk production, fruits, vegetables, fish farming, oil production and very diverse wines.

We will also visit some extremely valuable nature parks and museums to gain insight into sustainable forestry.

Ahead of the IFAJ Congress, let’s take a quick look at what makes Croatian agriculture so special. Here are 5 facts you might not know:

1. Corn is the #1 crop here, covering ~30% of all arable land 🌽
2. Wheat holds a massive significance - beyond being the staple for local bread, Croatia is a wheat exporter 🌾
3. Livestock farming is the heart and soul of the Croatian countryside. Our sheep cheeses 🧀 regularly bring home the highest honours and gold medals from prestigious world competitions!
4. Croatian premium olive oils 🫒 are taking the global culinary scene by storm, becoming a staple in high-end gastronomy.
5. Croatia is an incredibly diverse wine region. If you haven't heard much about our wines yet, there's a good reason: more than 20 million tourists visit every year and happily enjoy them right at the source! It's pretty clear – we definitely need to start producing more wine to keep up with the demand! 🍷
