Cheechoo, Murley and Willsie sign in!
50 goal scorer and Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy winner Jonathan Cheechoo, 400 NHL games player Brian Willsie and Matt Murley all signed for Medveščak Zagreb in the KHL league.
32 year old Jonathan Cheechoo, a native Canadian of the Cree tribe, a San Jose Sharks franchise record holder in goal scored (56), power play goals (24) and hat tricks (5) in one season, is the new player in the Den. In his record breaking season in the NHL Cheechoo also played in the NHL All Star game. In 560 NHL games Cheechoo scored 340 points, while in 342 AHL games he managed to score another 280 points.
According to the source dealing with players of Cree descent, Cheechoo signed with the KHL Medveščak Zagreb a one year contract.
Brian Willsie signed a deal with Medveščak despite having a 6 month contract with Finnish team TPS. According to the Bears' GM Aaron Fox if he passes the "try - out" period they'll keep him post October in the lineup. Willsie, 400 NHL games player, served to Mark French, his old-new coach, in Hamilton Bulldogs as asistant captain, and will be his new player in Zagreb.
Matt Murley is coming to Zagreb from Swedish ice hockey league where he spent last four seasons. 33 year old winger also played 3 games for Lugano in the NLA league back in 09/10 where his team mate was Dario Kostović. Murley played for Amur Khabarovsk (reportedly Kristan's and Muršak's new club) in the season 08/09 in the KHL.
Murley also attended his former teammate Ryan Malone's wedding with Sidney Crosby as a date whom he walked down the aisle.
