I feel incredibly lucky and happy to photograph Formula 1 all around the world. And it’s not just because of the speed it’s because of those moments that make every race truly unforgettable. A little over a week ago in Spa, Belgium, I shared a few photos of Kimi Antonelli hugging his father right after putting on his mask and helmet, just before getting into the car. At the Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend, I was waiting for that same moment and of course, it happened again. But this time, something more followed: a gesture.
Kimi was fully suited up, ready to take his seat in the already‑running F1 car. But one of his mechanics was still inside, finishing the final checks from the driver’s position. So Kimi simply sat down on the small stool next to the car the one drivers use for getting in and held the cooling tube that normally blows cold air onto the driver during the wait.
And then came the part that truly says everything about him:
He gently directed the airflow towards the mechanic, making sure he stayed cool while working. And after that, with a small smile, he even handed over one of his own gloves a tiny, human moment that meant the world to the person receiving it.
Kimi Antonelli, the biggest title contender of the season and still a teenager, is already such a remarkable human being. Look at these photos and see how happy that mechanic is to experience a moment like this. I’m truly happy I witnessed it but maybe even happier that I was able to capture it. Of course, the sight of the scene brought a smile to the father's face as well.
Szerencsés és boldog vagyok, hogy a Forma–1-et fotózhatom a világ minden pontján. Ez nem csak a gyorsaság miatt van így hanem azokért a pillanatokért, amelyek igazán emlékezetessé teszik a versenyeket. Picit több mint egy hete Belgiumban, Spa-ban mutattam pár képet arról, ahogy Kimi Antonelli a maszk és a sisak felvétele után megöleli az édesapját, mielőtt beszáll a versenyautóba. A hétvégi magyar nagydíjon is ezt a pillanatot vártam és természetesen nem maradt el.
Viszont most volt még valami: egy gesztus.
Kimi már teljesen beöltözve, készen állt arra, hogy elfoglalja a helyét a már beindított F1-es autóban. Csakhogy az egyik szerelője még az utolsó ellenőrzéseket végezte az autóban ülve, Kimi helyén. Erre ő szépen leült az autó mellé, a beszálláshoz használatos kis sámlira, és megfogta azt a csövet, amivel hideg levegőt szoktak a pilótára irányítani a várakozás alatt. És itt jött az a rész, ami mindent elmond róla:
Finoman ráirányította a hideg levegőt a szerelőre, hogy ő hűs maradjon, amíg dolgozik. Majd egy mosollyal még a saját kesztyűjét is odanyújtotta neki. Egy apró, emberi pillanat, ami annak a szerelőnek biztosan nagyon sokat jelentett. Kimi Antonelli, aki idén a világbajnokság legnagyobb esélyese és még tinédzser, már most ennyire nagyszerű ember. Nézzétek meg ezeket a képeket, mennyire boldog az a szerelő, hogy ilyen pillanat adatott meg neki. Én pedig természetesen nagyon boldog vagyok, hogy láthattam, de talán még boldogabb, hogy meg is tudtam örökíteni.
Természetesen az apai mosoly is megérkezett a jelenet láttán.
