💃 The Dancing Plague – People Dancing Until They Die (1518)
Imagine one morning, you see people dancing in the streets. Without music. Without a break. Without stopping.
That's what happened in 1518 in Strasbourg (now France). A woman named Frau Troffea started dancing for no reason. Soon, more than 30 people joined in the dance, as if controlled by something invisible.
A week passed, they were still dancing. Some began to faint, have convulsions, and even die from exhaustion, strokes, and heart attacks. But their bodies couldn't seem to stop dancing.
Instead of banning it, the local government hired musicians, hoping that the dance would "come out" of the victims' bodies. But the results were even worse. The victims increased to more than 400 people.
To this day, there is no definite explanation.
🧠 Some say mass hysteria.
☠️ Some say possessed by evil spirits.
🍄 Some also suspect they were poisoned by hallucinogenic moldy bread.

But... who can dance non-stop until they die?
