*History of Cats Over Time* 🐱👑
Cats have literally been the bosses of the world for thousands of years bro. Here’s the timeline:
*1. Prehistoric Era: 9,500 BC - Ancient Egypt*
- *Origin*: African wildcat `Felis silvestris lybica` was domesticated in the Middle East
- *Ancient Egypt*: Cats were gods. Bastet = cat goddess of fertility and home protection
- *Crazy fact*: Killing a cat in Egypt = death penalty. If a house was on fire, Egyptians saved the cat first before humans 😭
*2. Greek-Roman Era: 500 BC - 400 AD*
- Cats spread to Europe with traders
- Romans used cats to kill rats on ships + grain warehouses
- Nickname: "guardians of the granary"
*3. Middle Ages: 500 - 1500 AD*
- *Dark times*: Black cats were accused of being witches' pets. Mass killings during the "witch hunts"
