🌸 Did you know that, reportedly, Catherine was bullied at her all-girls boarding school? "She was picked on because she was perfect - well turned out and a lovely person. She was not the type to stick up for herself."
🌸 Studies suggest that globally, approximately one in three children have been bullied in the preceding month. Bullying can happen anywhere, although it is most common in and around schools. It can happen in forms such as physical, verbal, social, and relational.
🌸 Bullying in childhood is a major public health problem. It increases the risk of difficulties in mental health and behavioural development.
🌸 Children who are perceived as being 'different' in any way are at greater risk of victimisation.
🌸 Bullying episodes are usually unprovoked and deliberate, and bullies often seek visibility and prestige through their actions. Often, the bullies want to dominate others and improve their social status. They may have low self-esteem and, by bullying others, want to feel better about themselves. Some of them fail to recognise their behaviour as a problem.
🌸 Bullied children are significantly more likely to have mental health problems with negative impact on their daily life at home, in their relations to friends, learning in school, or leisure activities
🌸 Healthcare professionals, teachers, and parents play a vital role in preventing and identifying bullying - with helping children to understand its mental and physical health consequences.
