"UNDER THE GRAND CHANDELIER"
EPILOGUE: ONE YEAR LATER

The Grand Sentosa Bali’s lobby was decorated with flowers and fairy lights, and the crystal chandelier glowed brighter than ever. Ryan and Kai stood at the center of the room, surrounded by family and friends, ready to say their vows.

Kai played a song he’d written for the occasion—soft, beautiful, full of love. When he finished, Ryan took his hand.

“Kai,” he said, his voice full of emotion. “You came into my life like a ray of sunshine, and you’ve made every day brighter. I promise to love you, to protect you, to stand by you—always.”

“I promise to love you, to support you, to make you laugh,” Kai said. “To be your partner in everything, now and forever.”

They exchanged rings and kissed, and the room erupted in cheers. After the ceremony, they walked out to the beach, where a small stage had been set up. Kai picked up his guitar, and Ryan stood beside him, holding his hand.

“This song is for everyone who’s ever been afraid to love,” Kai said, then started playing.

As the music filled the air, Ryan looked at Kai, and he knew that he’d found everything he’d ever wanted—love, happiness, and a home in the man he loved.

"UNDER THE GRAND CHANDELIER"
CHAPTER 5: THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE

For three days, Ryan didn’t see Kai. He’d called, texted, gone to his apartment—but Kai was gone. The hotel felt empty without him, and Ryan realized that the legacy his father had left him meant nothing if he couldn’t be true to himself.

He found Kai at the beach, sitting on the same spot where they’d first made love, playing his guitar. Ryan walked over, his heart in his throat.

“Kai,” he said.

Kai stopped playing, but he didn’t look up. “What do you want, Ryan?”

“I want you back,” Ryan said. “I was wrong. The hotel doesn’t matter—you matter. My father would have wanted me to be happy, not to live a lie.”

Kai looked up, his eyes filled with tears. “Really?”

“Really.” Ryan got down on one knee, pulling out a small box. Inside was a silver ring with a tiny moonstone—just like the moon that night on the beach. “Kai Santos, will you be my partner? In everything? Not in secret—for everyone to see?”

Kai’s face broke into a smile. “Yes,” he said, throwing his arms around Ryan. “A thousand times yes.”

They stood up and kissed, just as the sun rose over the ocean. When they walked back to the hotel together, holding hands, Ryan felt like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders.

The staff cheered when they saw them, and even the old friend of Ryan’s father sent a note—“I was wrong. Love is the greatest legacy of all.”

"UNDER THE GRAND CHANDELIER"
CHAPTER 4: SECRETS AND STRUGGLES

Over the next few weeks, their relationship was a secret. They’d meet at the beach at night, or in Ryan’s office after everyone had gone home, or in the hotel’s hidden wine cellar—any place where they could be alone. It was thrilling, but it was also hard.

One day, a guest—an old friend of Ryan’s father—saw them talking by the bell stand, their hands almost touching. “Ryan, who’s this?” he asked, looking Kai up and down with a cold stare.

“This is Kai,” Ryan said, his voice tight. “He works here.”

The man laughed. “Works here? Or is he just… passing time?”

Kai’s face flushed, but he stood his ground. “I’m a bellboy, sir. And I’m good at my job.”

The man turned to Ryan. “Your father would be disappointed. Running a hotel is about respectability. Not… this.”

He walked away, and Ryan felt a knot in his stomach. That night, he found Kai in the staff garden, sitting alone.

“He was right,” Ryan said, sitting down beside him. “I’m putting the hotel at risk.”

Kai looked at him, his eyes filled with tears. “So that’s it? You’re going to let him scare you?”

“I don’t have a choice,” Ryan said. “The hotel is my father’s legacy.”

Kai stood up, his hands shaking. “Then maybe we shouldn’t do this anymore.”

He walked away, and Ryan didn’t stop him.

"UNDER THE GRAND CHANDELIER"
CHAPTER 3: MOONLIGHT ON THE BEACH

That night, Ryan picked Kai up from his small apartment near the hotel. They drove to a quiet beach, far from the crowds, and walked barefoot in the sand. The moon was full, casting a silver glow over the water, and the only sound was the crash of the waves.

“You play guitar?” Ryan asked, remembering what Kai had said.

Kai nodded, pulling a small guitar from his duffel bag. “I write songs too. Mostly about… feelings I can’t put into words.”

He started playing—soft, gentle chords that matched the rhythm of the waves. Ryan sat down beside him, listening, his eyes never leaving Kai’s face. When he finished, Kai looked at him. “This one’s new,” he said. “I wrote it yesterday.”

“About what?” Ryan asked.

“About finding something you didn’t know you were looking for.”

Ryan leaned in, his hand cupping Kai’s cheek. “Can I kiss you?” he asked, his voice barely a whisper.

Kai nodded, his eyes closing. Their first kiss was soft, tentative—like they were both afraid to break something precious. But then Kai pulled Ryan closer, and the kiss deepened, becoming more passionate, more urgent. Ryan’s hands moved through Kai’s curly hair, his fingers tangling in the strands, while Kai’s hands rested on Ryan’s chest, feeling his heart beat.

They lay down in the sand, wrapped in each other’s arms, their bodies pressed together. Ryan kissed his way down Kai’s neck, his lips brushing against sensitive skin, making Kai sigh with pleasure. Kai’s hands moved under Ryan’s shirt, tracing the lines of his muscles, and Ryan shivered.

“Are you sure?” Ryan asked, pulling back to look at him.

“More than sure,” Kai said, his voice full of longing.

They made love under the moon and stars, slow and gentle, every touch filled with meaning. When it was over, they lay there, breathing hard, their hearts beating in time. Kai rested his head on Ryan’s chest, and Ryan stroked his hair.

“I’ve never felt this way about anyone,” Ryan said.

“Me neither,” Kai said. “But what about the hotel? What if people find out?”

Ryan kissed the top of his head. “We’ll figure it out. Together.”

"UNDER THE GRAND CHANDELIER"
CHAPTER 2: FIRST SHIFT, FIRST SPARK

Kai’s first shift was chaos—luggage to carry, guests to direct, a lost child to find—but he handled it all with grace and a smile that made everyone stop and stare. Ryan found himself hovering near the bell stand, pretending to check his phone while watching Kai work.

“Need a hand with that?” Ryan asked, walking over as Kai struggled to lift a heavy suitcase.

“Thanks,” Kai said, his muscles tensing as they lifted it together. Their hands brushed, and Ryan felt a jolt of electricity that made his skin prickle.

After the rush died down, they sat on a bench in the staff garden, drinking cold coconut water. The sun was setting over the ocean, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink.

“Have you ever been to the beach here?” Kai asked, looking out at the water.

“All the time,” Ryan said. “But it’s different when you’re with someone else.”

Kai turned to him, his eyes soft. “Maybe you could show me sometime.”

Before Ryan could answer, the radio crackled to life—another guest needed help. They stood up, but Kai’s hand reached out and touched Ryan’s arm, just for a second. “Later?” he asked.

Ryan nodded. “Later.”

"UNDER THE GRAND CHANDELIER"
CHAPTER 1: CHECK-IN

The Grand Sentosa Bali’s lobby hummed with life—tourists chattering in dozens of languages, the clink of champagne flutes at the bar, and the soft glow of a crystal chandelier that hung from the ceiling like a frozen waterfall. At 34, Ryan Lim had run the hotel for three years, and he knew every corner of it by heart. He stood by the reception desk, adjusting his crisp white shirt, when a voice made him look up.

“Excuse me, sir? I think I’m in the wrong place.”

Ryan’s breath caught. The man standing there was young—maybe 25—with sun-kissed skin, dark curly hair that fell over his forehead, and eyes the color of amber. He wore worn jeans and a plain gray t-shirt, and he was holding a duffel bag like it was the only thing keeping him grounded.

“Wrong place how?” Ryan asked, his voice softer than he’d intended.

“I applied for the bellboy job,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck. “But the entrance for staff is… I can’t find it.”

Ryan smiled. “That’s because you’re standing right in front of it. I’m Ryan—owner and manager. You must be Kai.”

Kai’s face lit up. “Yeah! Kai Santos. I’m from Yogyakarta. First time in Bali.”

As Ryan led him to the staff locker room, he found himself watching Kai’s hands—long fingers, calloused from what he guessed was years of playing guitar. Kai talked as they walked, his voice easy and warm, telling Ryan about his journey, his love for music, and how he’d taken the job to save up for a new guitar.

When they reached the locker room, Ryan handed him a uniform. “Your shift starts tomorrow at 7 AM. I’ll see you then.”

Kai grinned, and a dimple appeared on his cheek. “Can’t wait, boss.”
