PES Model Tools Released!

Package : PES Model Tools (Blender 2.8–2.9)
Version : 0.3.0
Date : 2025-10-18
Target : Blender 2.80 – 2.90 (tested on 2.90)
Platform : Windows (tested)

Summary
- Full port to Blender 2.80+ API: Collection API, depsgraph evaluation, updated UI labels/icons.
- Improved .model import/export: stability, optional vertex-loop preservation, and automatic mesh splitting.
- XML Model Importer: batch import from XML manifest, optional texture application from .mtl.
- Texture Importer: material ↔ diffuse map matching from .mtl.

Key Technical Changes
- Object linking → scene.collection.objects.link(...)
- Triangulation + tangents → evaluated via depsgraph and Mesh.calc_tangents(uvmap=...)
- Vertex colors → RGBA (4-float) per Blender 2.8+
- PropertyGroup/Operator → annotation style (a: bpy.props.*) to remove 2.8+ warnings
- Legacy icons (FILESEL, FILE_SCRIPT, DOWNARROW_HLT) replaced with 2.8+ icons (FILE_FOLDER, TEXT, TRIA_DOWN)

UX Improvements
- “PES .model I/O” Scene panel
- “XML Model Importer” toggle, entry list, import selected
- .mtl path sync and “Import Texture” button per model group
- Per-group export with options set directly in the panel

Known Limitations
- Cloth physics not supported; parser warns and continues when possible
- Face order may change with autosplit; minor shading differences possible
- .model limits: ~65,535 vertices / 21,845 faces per mesh; 64 bones per bone-group
- No File → Import/Export menu entries; access via Scene panel

Install
1) Blender → Edit → Preferences → Add-ons → Install…
2) Select the ZIP containing this add-on (add-on folder inside the ZIP)
3) Enable “PES .model format”
4) Panel is under Properties → Scene → “PES .model I/O”

Quick Usage
- Import single file: “Model Importer” → choose .model
- Import from XML: toggle “XML Model Importer” → pick .xml → select entries → Import
- Textures from .mtl: set “Texture Path” → “Import Texture”
- Export: set “Export Path” → “Export Model”

Troubleshooting
- Import/Export crashes: ensure Blender 2.8+ (2.90 recommended) and enable autosplit for oversized meshes
- “Unable to find a suitable DXT compression”: Blender falls back to uncompressed; not fatal
- For issues, provide Blender version + sample files to reproduce
