She knew better than to fret or stress
the things we can’t control.
Her stoicism,
often misconstrued
as something calloused and cold.
When,
in fact,
she found life to be something far too important
to waste away on grief.
The frailty of life became a fire starter.
Something ignited beneath her feet.
A call to action.
A reason to run full speed,
without fear,
without timidity.
Loss was not something weighing her down,
but the breeze behind her back
and beneath brightly feathered wings.
A reason to love and dream wildly.
Time she’ll never get back
was the price she paid
to appreciate the present.
So,
in that sense,
none of it was a waste.
Everything was a windfall.
Nothing was lost on her.
What went over the heads of many
struck her straight through the heart.
Nature and earth became something to sink into,
rather than be surrounded by.
The people she shared space with
now opportunities for greater moments and memories.
Death was only something those
too afraid to live
seemed to fear.
She would not be haunted.
Everything that mattered to her was already here.
