Why I Won’t Buy Any Android Phone Other Than Samsung
This is an old opinion, but as both an iPhone user (and a Samsung user), I still believe Samsung remains the best Android brand—far ahead of low-cost Chinese brands (and even brands like Sony).
The main reason is One UI. Samsung’s software is user-friendly, highly customizable, and packed with useful features.
In terms of security, Samsung is also strong—almost on par with iOS, especially on flagship models like the S25 or the Fold/Flip series. Security is a crucial factor. Many Chinese phones cut corners here, increasing the risk of data leaks, and there have already been real cases of this happening.
Even though Samsung’s software support period may not feel as long as iOS, it still doesn’t feel outdated like many Chinese Android phones.
The latest One UI 8 also feels more optimized than iOS 26, which I find rather unstable. I’ve barely encountered bugs so far.
Hardware-wise, Samsung may still lag behind competitors in some areas. Display and camera quality, for example, aren’t as dominant as they used to be.
However, at least Samsung avoids unnecessary gimmicks—like multiple useless camera sensors that worsen design and practicality without guaranteeing better camera quality. Ultra-bright 5000-nit displays also feel excessive, strain the eyes, and only sustain peak brightness for a few seconds before dimming. No need to add features that most users don’t actually need.
I currently live abroad, where many Chinese people—students and workers alike—use Chinese phones like Honor or Huawei. Even so, many still choose Samsung or iPhone as their second phone. This may be because apps here are not as well optimized for Chinese brands.
The biggest issue with Samsung, in my opinion, is hardware quality control. Build quality can be inconsistent, with common issues like screen burn-in or green lines. Samsung’s customer service is also unreliable—even overseas—just like many Chinese brands. Apple’s quality control has also declined compared to the past.
Still, as a user who prioritizes functionality, phones like Samsung and iPhone remain the best choices.
