Neuschwanstein Castle, located in Bavaria, Germany. Built in the 19th century by King Ludwig II, often called the "Mad King" or "Dream King," this castle is a quintessential example of romanticized medieval architecture and one of the most visited landmarks in Germany. Nestled in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, it overlooks the serene surroundings of forests, lakes, and mountains.
The castle's intricate towers, arched windows, and dramatic location on a rugged cliff make it look like something out of a fairy tale, and indeed, it inspired Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle. Neuschwanstein was designed as a personal retreat for Ludwig II and as an homage to Richard Wagner, the king's favorite composer, with many of the castle’s rooms depicting scenes from Wagner’s operas.
