C.T.R. Wilson was a Scottish physicist and Nobel laureate best known for inventing the cloud chamber, a device that revolutionized the study of subatomic particles and earned him the nickname "the father of particle physics.

He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1927 (shared with Arthur Compton) for his invention, which Ernest Rutherford called "the most original apparatus in the whole history of physics.
