👀 You've probably seen it before, but do you know its name?

This is Pangsi, the traditional attire of Betawi men.

It consists of a plain, loose-fitting shirt and oversized ankle-length pants.

While similar garments are worn across various Indonesian cultural groups, including the Sudanese and the Malay, the Betawi Pangsi stands out with its own diverse philosophy, heritage and symbolism that embodies the modest practicality of the Betawi people, while retaining a clean, dignified look.

Based on many sources, Pangsi was influenced by Chinese culture.

The name baju tikim is derived from the Hokkien term tui kim, while celana pangsi comes from phang si. These garments were originally worn by Chinese immigrants and were later adopted and adapted by local Betawi communities.

🏓 Padel, running, and golf are just some of the sports transforming Jakarta’s social scene, changing how people meet, interact, and enjoy time outside of work.

More people are opting for 5 am runs rather than late nights out, and these social sports provide a peek into the evolving routines of Jakartans, highlighting an interesting cross-section between socialising and health/wellness.

Furthermore, there’s an uptick in the number of people being active according to Strava, with Indonesian users increasing tenfold in the past 5 years alone. Women especially showed a 20x increase.

Yes, sport has emerged as the city’s new social arena – but what is the driving force behind this burgeoning new movement?

🥊 There’s a battle being fought on the Northern Coast of Jakarta.

This is a fight between Mother Nature and the coast’s inhabitants, who not only wrangle with an eroding coastline but also tenuous support from the government, threatened livelihoods, and more.

Indonesian photographers have turned their lenses toward these coastal communities, capturing powerful visual narratives that reveal the day-to-day realities of life on the frontlines.

Their images portray a complex story of resilience, vulnerability, and the evolving relationship between people and their shifting environment.

🌊 Pristine Cruising in the Unspoilt Togean Islands

There are still places in Indonesia where the sea remains wild, coral gardens untouched, and the rhythm of life is set by tides, not traffic.

The Togean Islands, nestled in the heart of Central Sulawesi, offer exactly that: an escape not just from the city, but from everything hurried and expected.

Togean Safari Cruise offers a thoughtfully curated journey through this remote region, combining island-hopping, cultural immersion, and world-class snorkelling aboard a handcrafted wooden boat, Toki-Toki.

You’ll visit stilted sea villages, hike active volcanoes, and swim with stingless jellyfish, all without the stress of planning.
