Balbriggan Tidy Towns

Balbriggan Tidy Towns We are a voluntary group which promotes the Tidy Towns competition and ideals in Balbriggan. Or why not adopt a patch?

Get involved in Balbriggan Tidy Towns by joining our works party any Saturday morning @ 11am on Balbriggan beach or 10.30am at Moylaragh playground. Choose a public area which you think you could maintain, tell us about it and we will provide you with some resources and support. Balbriggan is a fabulous, sea-side town, steeped in history and natural beauty; we aim to promote and enhance its charm,

making it an even more pleasant place to live and visit. In the national Tidy Towns competition we have increased our score year on year and have won two Endeavour Awards in the last 5 years.

We are so happy with all the really cool stuff we won from Dublin Airport in their Eco Gift Pack giveaway. A composter, water butt, wheel barrow, watering can, bird table, bug hotel etc which will all be put to great use. Thank you Dublin Airport for the nice surprise and to our volunteer, Elaine, who put us in the competition.

We are so lucky to have so many young people looking to volunteer with Tidy Towns recently. U18s, however, have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
So we would very much welcome teenagers, with their guardians, any Satuday on the beach .
It's a win win really. We get two volunteers for the price of one and you get to spend quality time in the community with your son or daughter. We hope you understand.

Thanks to Bernadette and our Gardening Group we have started our latest wildflower area. Building on our pollinator award at the Tidy Towns competition we are doing our best to provide food for our bees. This area is beside our apple orchard - planted a few years ago with Bremore Educate Together Secondary School and maintained by Balbriggan Gardening Group - SAVE the BEES

We were really delighted to receive this gorgeous publication, The Hare's Corner, which features St Mologa’s SNS and the story of their pond and their efforts to promote biodiversity in their school. Their entry and the many other community groups from around Ireland that feature in this book are a real celebration of people working to make space for nature.
Well done to all in St Mologa’s on their great project and their beautiful story.

We'd love to meet new volunteers so please call in to the Our Balbriggan - Get Involved office, George’s Square, this Saturday between 1pm and 3pm and say hello.
We have so many volunteering opportunities for so many interests; gardening, biodiversity, sustainability, painting, fixing, water harvesting, composting, wildlife surveying and of course litter picking.

On behalf of Dr Kevin Lynch:

We’re coming to Balbriggan to gather more views on the future of Balbriggan Beach:

Oct 10th Friday – Schools/Youth engagement

Oct 11th Saturday – Public drop-in at Balbriggan Library (all day)

In August, we gathered ~70 survey responses during a visit to the beach (unadvertised). This time, we’re hoping to hear from even more voices. On Saturday October 11th, members of the public are warmly invited to drop into the library and complete a short survey.

This initiative is part of Dunes Future Agency’s work with Fingal County Council to develop ideas for the future of Balbriggan Beach. Since June 2025, we’ve been engaging with a wide range of stakeholders through meetings, a workshop, and now this survey. The findings will inform a report to Fingal County Council, combining DFA’s expert insights with the views of the people of Balbriggan.

Thank you for your support in making sure as many people as possible have their say.

Best wishes,
Kevin
