Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (DLRCC) is inviting feedback from the public for the DLR Connector – a walking and cycling route which will connect neighbourhoods between Dún Laoghaire and Dundrum.

The plan will see an 8.5km cycle lane connecting the east and west of the council area with upgraded junctions, footpaths and bus stops.

Senior Engineer for Active Travel in DLRCC, Conor Geraghty, said the new plan can help make the route safe for children and other commuters.

Not many architects can claim half a dozen significant public buildings on their resume by the time they hit their early 30s. James Edward Rogers did exactly that, before retiring from architecture altogether at the tender age of 32.

Rogers appears to have had a talent – and presumably the connections – for building churches. Today, he is responsible for places of Protestant worship in Co Limerick, Co Kildare, Co Tyrone and at Howth, Skerries and Rush in Co Dublin.

Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary has said he has “absolutely no” sympathy for the residents living in the environs of Dublin Airport who complain about noise pollution.

Speaking to Newstalk’s The Pat Kenny Show, Mr O’Leary described the noise complaints as “utter nonsense”, and, when asked whether he has “any sympathy for the residents”, he answered: “Absolutely none”.

“There are no nighttime flights taking off over your house between the hours of midnight to 6.30am [or] 6 o'clock in the morning,” he said.

Bob Dylan has again banned concertgoers from using their mobile phones during his shows, including for a number of gigs to be held around Ireland.

The 84-year-old singer will play this autumn at venues in Dublin, Killarney and Belfast, as well as at a number of UK venues.

Attendees of Dylan’s Rough and Rowdy Ways tour, which has been on the road since November 2021, are asked to put their electronic devices in a special bag, which is then sealed throughout the concert.

With the mercury set to soar well into next week, Dublin’s beaches will be thronged with sunseekers and swimmers taking advantage of the hot weather.

The city’s coastline, stretching from Balbriggan in the north to its boundary with Bray in the south, boasts an enviable number of fine beaches for a capital city.

But before you pack the picnic basket and apply the sun cream, here’s why we think these five beaches are Dublin’s best.

Joey O’Brien has praised Seán Boyd for his reaction to his exclusion from the Champions League first leg with Linfield, suggesting that his impact off the bench is setting an example to the rest of the Shelbourne squad.

Boyd was a big player in their title-winning campaign last term and signed a new long-term contract over the winter amid interest from England and Scotland but has largely been restricted to an impact-sub role this season since returning from a lay-off.

Mipo Odubeko was preferred for the Tolka Park leg of the showdown with the Irish League champions and O’Brien accepted it might have been a tough decision for Boyd to swallow.

A US civil lawsuit in which a woman has accused Conor McGregor of sexual assault has stalled as the wait for officials to serve a court summons on the mixed martial arts fighter drags on.

Despite efforts in the US and Ireland, McGregor has not yet been served his summons for the sexual battery civil suit lodged against him in Miami last January.

A legal source in the US told the Irish Independent the case is “dead in the water” until the summons is served.

The Greater Dublin Drainage Project, which has been seen as a vital infrastructure for expanding housing stock, has today been approved by An Coimisiún Pleanála, formerly An Bord Pleanála.

The major €1.3bn wastewater treatment scheme has been in the planning process for at least six years, and was designed to ease pressure on the Ringsend wastewater treatment plant in Dublin city currently operating at capacity, and provide for the growing needs of homes and industry.

Currently half of Ireland’s wastewater is treated in the greater Dublin area, with 40pc of it being treated in Ringsend.

Irish Rail has announced that the eagerly-awaited new Dart station, located between Shankill and Bray, will be opened for commuters next month.

Woodbrook Station will open on Sunday, August 10, and will be at the heart of the new residential community in the Woodbrook-Shanganagh Strategic Development Zone (SDZ), which comprises up to 2,300 homes, including the new Woodbrook housing developments and the Shanganagh Castle social and affordable housing project.

Funded by the Department of Transport through the National Transport Authority, the hope is that the new station – the 147th on the Irish Rail network – will reduce reliance on the private car and help Ireland reach its climate action targets.
