Been getting stuck into the new Boards Of Canada Inferno. First impressions? It's awesome, it feels like one of those perfect albums for that point in the after-party when it's late and ready people are ready for oit to start winding down. Side A and B are the slightly more energetic tracks. As the album moves on, it slowly drifts into a warped, druggy, mellow oblivion. Deep, strange, beautiful stuff. Big up The Fat Goat and Captain Stomp Records for putting on an awesome listening party for the album launch last week.

RIP Roy Ayers, Vibraphonist Who Injected Soul Into Jazz, Died this week. He helped introduce a funkier strain of the music in the 1970s. He also had an impact on hip-hop: His “Everybody Loves the Sunshine” has been sampled nearly 200 times.

"Cornelius Ferguson—aka Corky “Traxman” Strong, aka just Traxman—has been at the heart of Chicago’s dance music for a very, very long time. Having grown up during the first waves of evolution of the city’s house culture, he founded the collective G.E.T.O. DJz, Inc. in 1992, and made his recording debut for the infamous Dance Mania label in 1996. This was at the height of the ghetto house sound: Deliberately simple repetitions of b***y lyrics, pounding kicks, and nagging one-note riffs—generally pressed on the worst quality vinyl known to humanity, just to emphasize the rawness."

The dance legend had a front-row seat to the evolution of the city’s crucial sound.

"Reggae tracks don’t often come as iconic as Willie Williams’ 1979 track ‘Armagideon Time’. Recorded by Coxsone Dodd in Jamaica and released via the legendary reggae label Studio One, the track is pretty self-explanatory, detailing the plight of modern man and a decline in quality of life. Obviously, these themes were already very much part of The Clash’s repertoire, so it should come as no surprise that the band chose to cover Williams’ track for the B-side of ‘London Calling’. "
