There’s a little place on Connemara to tell you about - a small, family-run hotel that might just take the stress from your shoulders…

The Connemara Sands is this week’s Irish Independent hotel review, with 30 rooms and five self-catering stays (some pet-friendly) just steps from Mannin Bay.

Prepare for sea, saunas, chilled staff, and a chef that seems to have a direct line to the foodie croí of Connemara, says Pól Ó Conghaile.

Some spaces need work, and it’s an evolving stay, but any quibbles are trumped by a tone that is joyful, calm and restorative, he says.

Dublin Airport has overhauled its lounges, and is charging from €35 to €55pp for any passenger to buy two-hour slots.

The lounges can be a treat (especially for a special occasion), but are less comfy when busy, and planning is required to get the best bang for your buck.

All four offer exclusive space, prices that include food and drink options, “PRM-friendly” (passenger with reduce mobility) showers, airport wifi, press readers, lots of charging points and business zones. But there are differences between them (and not just in size - one doesn’t have hot food, and only a single lounge offers barista coffee, for example).
