From Conflict to Hope. Introducing my guest this week - Jane Buckley from Derry, Northern Ireland who is a passionate storyteller who brings the complexities of her homeland's history to life. Inspired by her childhood during the Troubles.
Jane's next work, written for the US based Project Children, steps back to the powerful true story behind the initiative featured in the series. Between the seventies and nineties, 23,000 children from both sides of the divide were flown to the United States, welcomed into homes and given a taste of peace. It's a story of hope, healing and the quiet power of kindness. One child, one family. One Summer at a time.

Homelessness is something that touches me deeply. It’s easy to pass by and not see, yet behind every person sleeping rough or struggling to find shelter, there is a story, a life, a human being who longs to be seen. Karen Olson changed the trajectory of her life and that of thousands of people with one act of kindness.

Karen Olson faced tragedy in her own childhood when her Mother took her life when She was only 12. Always wanting to be a nurse, She was influenced otherwise until She found her purpose in helping others in a different way by setting up Family Promise in 1986 - a national non-profit organisation that helps homeless and low-income families. By 2016, Family Promise opened its doors in its 200th location. Through Karen's leadership, awareness and compassion, those affected by homelessness were now being seen and heard, the support that Karen's organisation offered helped them to find a home, offering safety and stability. This had a knock on effect in their education and careers. Only 6 years ago, Karen had a terrible accident, but it hasn't stopped her from feeling grateful and still wanting to raise awareness, and writing her book - 'Meant for More -following your heart and finding your purpose' - shares her life, work and contribution to humanity
