APC in shock as Ikpeazu’s ex-Chief of Staff defects to Otti’s camp

Political tensions flared in Abia State on Wednesday when Professor Anthony Agbazuere, former Chief of Staff to ex-Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, unexpectedly left the APC and publicly supported Governor Alex Otti’s re-election campaign.

Agbazuere, who recently led a powerful APC strategic committee formed by ex-Governors Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji, and Okezie Ikpeazu to plan the party’s 2027 takeover of Abia, surprised many by leading his supporters directly to Governor Otti’s residence in Nvosi to switch allegiance to the Labour Party.

This move, already causing concern within APC circles, saw Agbazuere openly commend Otti’s accomplishments, stating the Governor’s success prompted him to rethink his political future.

Governor Otti welcomed the defectors, assuring them they would receive equal treatment in the Labour Party and encouraging them to complete their official registration without delay.

This sudden defection is widely viewed as a significant political setback to the APC’s efforts to rebuild in Abia State.

Wike Criticises Uzodinma Over 2027 Senate Ambition: “Are You Trying to Be Governor and Senator Simultaneously?”

“You are currently the governor with a term ending in 2028, yet you’re already eyeing a Senate seat for the 2027 elections. Does this suggest you want to hold both positions in Imo State? What kind of political spectacle is this?

Meanwhile, you claim to champion justice in another state, but who is truly being deceived? Still, some continue to praise you.

Are you implying that no one else in your senatorial district is qualified enough to serve in the Senate? But greed seems to prevent you from letting others serve. Shame on you and those supporting this desperation. It appears you are determined to become Senate President at all costs.” — Nyesom Ezenwo Wike - CON, GSSRS comment on Hope Uzodinma

2027 Countdown Begins: NDC Reps Caucus Holds Secret Abuja Summit with Obi, Kwankwaso, Dickson – Vow to Hold Government Accountable

In a clear signal that opposition forces are consolidating ahead of the 2027 elections, members of the National Defence Coalition (NDC) Reps Caucus have convened a high-stakes meeting in Abuja with Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and former Bayelsa Governor Seriake Dickson. The closed-door session, which sources describe as both strategic and solidarity-driven, saw the lawmakers reaffirm their loyalty to the coalition’s leadership and pledge to ramp up parliamentary oversight of the ruling government. The meeting underscores the NDC’s determination to present a united front, even as questions linger about how the coalition will harmonize its diverse interests into a single presidential ticket.

According to insiders, the caucus vowed to use every legislative tool available to hold the current administration accountable, particularly on issues of economic hardship, insecurity, and electoral integrity. The presence of both Obi and Kwankwaso—two heavyweight opposition figures often seen as potential rivals—side by side at the same table is being interpreted as a deliberate show of unity. With 2027 approaching, the NDC is betting that coordinated action between its parliamentary caucus and its presidential hopefuls can build the momentum needed to challenge the ruling APC. Whether this alliance can survive the inevitable pressures of primary season, however, remains the biggest unanswered question.

“NIGERIA UNDER SIEGE!” — ATIKU BLASTS TINUBU AS EX-LAWMAKER DIES IN BANDITS’ DEN

In Nigeria, worsening insecurity sparked fresh political outrage Tuesday when former Vice President Atiku Abubakar harshly criticised President Bola Tinubu over the death of ex-lawmaker Abba Adamu in captivity by kidnappers.

Adamu, who was a former House of Representatives member, was reportedly kidnapped by armed bandits along the dangerous Abuja–Kaduna highway on May 3. After nine days in captivity and frantic rescue efforts by his family, he reportedly died at the hands of his abductors—stoking new fears and anger nationwide.

Through his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku issued a strong statement accusing Nigeria of turning into a country where “citizens are hunted like prey.” He blamed the Tinubu administration for failing to protect the livelihood of the people.

Atiku depicted a grim image of Nigeria descending into chaos, claiming that kidnappings, killings, and violent assaults have become a “cruel national routine” under the current government.

He questioned, 'When a former lawmaker is not safe on one of Nigeria’s main highways, what chances do ordinary citizens have?” This was in response to the government’s repeated claims of progress in the fight against insecurity.

He also criticised authorities over the ongoing bloodshed along the Abuja–Kaduna corridor, despite billions supposedly spent on security measures, insisting that government assurances no longer reflect the harsh daily realities Nigerians face.

Furthermore, Atiku challenged the Federal Government to clarify its actual security strategies, warning that no amount of political spin or PR statements could conceal what he called a frightening collapse of national security.

Finally, the Waziri Adamawa extended condolences to Adamu's family, the people of Jigawa State, and countless Nigerians affected by rampant insecurity, calling for urgent and decisive action to prevent further loss of lives.

“$1.25BN loan, N1.7TRN debt!’ — Outrage as Tinubu government seeks another large World Bank loan

Controversy has arisen over Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration's plans to secure another significant loan from the World Bank. Critics warn that Nigeria risks sinking further into debt amid worsening economic hardship.

According to World Bank documents, the government is pushing for a new $1.25 billion facility under the Nigeria Actions for Investment and Jobs Acceleration project. Valued at about N1.7 trillion, this loan is nearing approval and may be presented to the World Bank board on June 26, 2026.

If approved, it would be the second-largest loan under President Tinubu, after the $1.5 billion economic stabilisation package in 2024.

This borrowing comes as millions of Nigerians face high inflation, soaring food prices, and rising living costs due to reforms like fuel subsidy removal and naira devaluation.

Economists warn that external debt could exceed N76 trillion, with total public debt approaching N161 trillion, raising concerns over dependence on foreign debt.

While the government claims the funds will boost investment, private sector growth, and jobs, many Nigerians remain sceptical, questioning why hardships persist despite promises of economic recovery.

The controversy intensified when Nigeria’s Accountant-General, Dr Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, urged the World Bank to avoid delays in loan approval and disbursement, warning Nigeria might reconsider future deals if processing delays continue.

His comments have led to accusations that Nigeria is increasingly relying on international borrowing to fund its reforms, amid rising public frustration over poverty and economic challenges.

Homeland Security entered Nigeria’s political dictionary on Monday after President Bola Tinubu approved the creation of a brand-new advisory office inside the presidency and handed the seat to retired Major General Adeyinka Fadewa. The announcement immediately triggered conversations across social media, where Nigerians began asking whether the country now has “security supervisors supervising other security supervisors.”

The presidency says the move is meant to improve intelligence sharing, inter-agency coordination and proactive response to emerging threats. Officials also pointed to Fadewa’s past role in helping establish the Intelligence Fusion Centre during his years at the Office of the National Security Adviser.

But on the streets, many citizens simply want to know whether kidnappers, bandits and violent criminals received the memo too. For now, Nigerians are watching closely to see whether the new office becomes a genuine turning point or just another Abuja title with an official portrait frame waiting nearby.

“FAKE MARRIAGES, BRIBES AND MIGRATION SCANDAL ROCK SOUTH AFRICA, RAMAPHOSA BLAMES CITIZENS FOR FUELING CRISIS”

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has ignited debate after accusing some citizens of actively worsening the country’s immigration challenges through corruption and fraudulent schemes, including fake marriages with undocumented foreign nationals.

In a strongly worded statement, Ramaphosa claimed that certain South Africans are not just bystanders but “participants in the problem,” alleging involvement in sham marriages, illegal sale of state-subsidised housing, bribery for access to public services, and exploitation of undocumented migrants as cheap labour.

He warned that such actions are intensifying tensions around migration and undermining law enforcement efforts to regulate immigration and protect public resources.

At the same time, he condemned xenophobia and violence, insisting there is no justification for targeting foreign nationals. He reaffirmed that South Africa remains committed to human rights, while also asserting its right to control borders and enforce immigration laws.

Ramaphosa further defended the country’s refugee system, noting that refugees are integrated into communities rather than being placed in camps, and highlighted South Africa’s broader role in African cooperation, trade, and migration.

The remarks come amid ongoing public debate over undocumented migration, economic pressure, and rising social tensions in parts of the country.

EFCC DECLARES EX-MINISTER SADIYA FAROUQ WANTED OVER ALLEGED MULTI-BILLION NAIRA SCANDAL

In a dramatic escalation of an ongoing anti-corruption probe, Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, wanted over serious allegations bordering on criminal conspiracy, abuse of office, and diversion of public funds.

The announcement, made public on Saturday through the commission’s official channels, sent shockwaves across the political space as the anti-graft agency unveiled her photograph and personal details while appealing to Nigerians for information that could lead to her arrest.

According to the EFCC, Farouq—aged 52 and originally from Zamfara State—is being investigated in connection with alleged financial misconduct during her time in office. The commission listed her last known residence as a highbrow address in Maitama, Abuja.

The agency warned that anyone with useful information on her whereabouts should immediately contact its offices nationwide or via its hotline and email contacts, stressing the urgency of the manhunt.

The EFCC, Nigeria’s leading anti-corruption agency, states that the case involves allegations of high-level conspiracy and the suspected diversion of public funds, although no court has established guilt.

As the search intensifies, the development adds another layer of tension to the country’s ongoing scrutiny of former public officials and the handling of humanitarian funds.
