Pupils at St. John’s N.S. have been busy learning, exploring and celebrating achievement in recent weeks. As part of the Stream Scapes initiative led by heritage specialist Stephanie O’Toole, pupils from 1st to 6th class enjoyed a visit to Kenmare Pier where they took part in beachcombing activities and learned about local marine life. Any crabs discovered during the visit were safely and quickly returned to the water.
Meanwhile, Ms. Cashman’s second Class put their engineering skills to the test by designing, building and testing boats made from recycled materials. The project encouraged creativity, problem-solving and teamwork.
The school was also delighted to receive its 9th Green Flag for Global Citizenship, Food and Biodiversity. As part of the Green Schools programme, pupils completed the “Farm to Fork” requirement by growing vegetables including onions, garlic, potatoes and pumpkins in the community garden. Following the harvest, members of the Green Schools Committee prepared delicious potato and pumpkin soup for the entire school to enjoy.
