Another excellent launch took place last evening for Tom McElligott’s new novel 'Sense of Place', published by Savoy Editions', the fiction imprint of the Limerick Writers' Centre. The event drew a warm and enthusiastic crowd, all gathered to celebrate Tom’s latest work, a moving and sharply observed exploration of identity, memory, and the fragile threads that bind us to one another.
Dominic Taylor, director of LWC spoke about their new imprint, Savoy Editions, and their plans for the future.

The book was beautifully launched by author and workshop facilitator Madge O’Callaghan, whose thoughtful remarks set the tone for the evening. She spoke to the novel’s emotional depth and its quiet power: a story of listening, of being seen, and of finding meaning in the most unexpected places.

The capacity crowd was treated to a reading by Tom himself, offering a glimpse into the world of the novel and the riveting voice that drives it. The room fell into that rare, attentive hush that only a strong piece of writing can command.

'Sense of Place' is now available directly from the author and from local bookshops, including O’Mahony’s in Limerick. It can also be purchased online at www.limerickwriterscentre.com http://www.limerickwriterscentre.com

A wonderful afternoon yesterday at the launch of Cathy Conlon’s debut novel, Swift, Vanessa and The Sluttery, held in the gorgeous surroundings of Barberstown Castle Hotel, Co. Kildare. Family, friends, and supporters turned out in great numbers to celebrate Cathy and her remarkable achievement, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere throughout the event.

The proceedings were expertly guided by MC Alison Maxwell, who introduced the readers and kept everything running smoothly and professionally. Dominic Taylor of Savoy Editions, publishers of Cathy’s novel, spoke about Cathy’s talent, dedication, and the craft that shines through every page of the book.

The official launch was performed by poet Ger Duffy, whose thoughtful remarks set the tone beautifully. Two guest readers then shared extracts from the novel, giving the audience a vivid glimpse into the world Cathy has created.

The afternoon concluded with an engaging Q&A between Ger Duffy and Cathy, offering fascinating insights into Cathy’s creative process, her research, and the inspirations behind the story. It was an illuminating and intimate conversation that added real depth to the occasion.

A fabulous launch for a powerful debut — congratulations again to Cathy on a memorable and richly deserved celebration.

About Sense of Place
A chance encounter on a rain soaked bridge draws a weary commuter into the orbit of an old tramp whose past is far richer, and far darker than his battered cup suggests. As the two men circle each other in a wary dance of curiosity and confession, a hidden life slowly emerges: boyhood innocence, family bonds, loss, addiction, and the long road toward survival.
Sense of Place is a moving and sharply observed novel about identity, memory, and the fragile threads that bind us to one another. It is a story of listening, of being seen, and of finding meaning in the most unexpected places.
